morning all,
i have just brought a new daily driver whist the toy goes in for more work :slayer:.

but............. it seems i have a issue lol.
car i have brought is a fiat bravo 1.4 i think, with a 2.0 20v conversion dont tell no one ... but it has a syncro crunch on the way to 3rd every time you try and engage it it crunches but goes in freely. syncro in g.b most certain.

im wondering the cheepest option to get this sorted.
# leave it and hack the **** out of the car till it goes then sort it out? {ovisously cheepest option :rolleyes:}
# try and change gearbox oil {sorted my last mr2 turbo out for a while}
# pull the box out and get box rebuilt {where/rough prce}
# change box for 2nd hand jobbie and hope its not as crap as this one?

if anyones had a good gearbox built {repaired} please let me know price paid and where work was done think its going to be best option.

on a brighter note i have had mucho fun chasing down the local barry boys saxos/corsas and minis lol.... surprised just how well this thing goes. il get some pics up later but breif spec

ghetto spec brava sleeper
2.0 hgt engine
16'' alloys with 195/45/16 all round
lowered on springs :nutter:
fully stripped out
full magnex exhaust
ghetto sun strip

personally i'd just get a second hand gearbox from a scrappers/breakers yard, might cost anything from 100 to 150 i recon, i've never had one re-built so sorry cant help on that.

that is a pretty ghetto interior lol!

why did the previous owner go to all the trouble of fitting a 20v N/A?

how does it handle with the extra weight?

your best option will be to fit a second hand gearbox, check ebay etc, if you can find one you should be looking £50-100 for the box then fitting depends how good you are with the spanners

i know ;), was rattling like a goodun last night so got cable tie happy and pulled a few more bits off now she doesnt rattle at all.

i dont really know the history of the car but looking at the space in the engine compartment theres not alot of free space in there for the turbo unit, however am currently looking at progressive nos maybe 35bhp nothing to derastic. its never going to be a giant killer but then i can always go back to the garage and swap cars lol

well round our private testing ground  last night it had no problem at all keeping up with my mates williams clio 2 with bolt ons, he was not a happy man, but yeah seems to handle suprisingly nice for just springs need to get those arches rolled desperatly though.

if anyone sees a decent hgt box let me know and il most prob have it and give it a go fitting myself.

list of things to do this weekend
1. respray interior some kind of colour, sugestions welcome
2. sort exhaust leak from manifold
3. pikey spec arch rolling {scaffolding pole} demo below

things to get done.
get new gearbox on it, rebuilt or 2nd hand
sort out some sort of breathing, k&n ect
service due in 4k leads/filters/oil ect
progresive nos system, 35bhp
home made roll cage
fit bucket seats and harnesses
and finaly GET IT ON THE ****ING TRACK!!!! :worship:

lol ****ing exhaust fell off today on my drive, quick fit rekon it will need a new full exhaust as it leaks at every joint ,

can some one tell me weather a fiat bravo hgt full exhaust will fit my brava 5 door? if not where can i get one from or how can i adapt it

If you have a 20v engine then surely part of your exhaust will already be 20v ;)
the only difference between Bravo-brava exhaust wise is the back boxes. the brava has a longer rear end so the box is extended and the tail pipe exits slightly different.

Am also suprised that they did not fit the turbo engine. exactly same lump (dimensions wise) only it has a turbo on the down pipe, intercooler oil cooler etc, no real extra room is needed once you find space for the cooling. Marea coupe and bravo/a are all the same underneath anyway :)

I guess it is quite nippy with the N/A with the interior out its probably ever so slightly lighter than a stock 147hgt

oh i had a bit of fun with some rattle cans today, not compleetly done but will post final finished pics tomorrow

Hiya mate, just noticed this thread.ya gota yaself asleeper then..Just like me hehe :)
I also noticed you got marea weekend 160 dials.im presuming you got the marea loom then? If you have then the engine wud have come from the marea along with the box? If not then you wana get yaself a marea weekend box, revs more freeley than the hgt ..well its what i been told as i have the lot :)

Wonder if that is right. My hgt is too high reving in 5th for my personal liking. It feels like it needs a 6th gear. I keep thinking it is in 4th.

yeah defo feels like it needs a 6th gear, revs really freely and has slightly longer ratios then my mates clio williams ;), thing seems to want to pull round to very late 7k's like 7800 is that usual lol?

re exhaust, seems i need a full manifold back cat pipe, mid pipe, centre section and rear box :bang:, i really didnt want a visable tail pipe at all but am currently looking at the possibility of this just to bait the barry boys.

along with this, hopefully they will go together.

and possibly if the bill from the mr2 isnt too bad a new aftermarket filter and if fund alow some nice seats and harnesses. been offered buckets and rails for £80 just means il have to weld them in, so might have some of that :slayer:

interior will hopefully be finished tomorrow so will post a pic soon, over and out (y)

Yer that sounds about right, mine just pulls thru every gear, its great :)
It is said to believe due to the weight and size of the weekend as it needed that bit extra to pull the thing lol.BUT it is known for a loss on top end speed aparantly.(but not yet proven)

still getting to grips with the way it handles and how the car drives give me a week and il report back a top speed, feels like it could easily do 140+, as promissed some finished pics of the interior

Yer snap, looks wicked, espcially the blue covered loom :)

Im doubt youll get 140 out of it mate. You might have to get it chipped to get that speed. The max speed of hgt's are 130 + 132.
Ive got 17's on mine with full custom stainless with twin exit back box/tailpipe from Permazaust (st.annes) and a k+n ind kit and i cud only acheive 133,it wud not budge.
The thing with the 5 pots, they have crackin acceleration but top end aint all that good.A guy i ued to wok with had a 5 pot gti golf and he said exactly the same.He said he prefered his1.8 16v focus.
