Fiat Transponder Key

Is it possible to get a new transpoder key for my Brava with the alarm switch in the middle rather than on the side - both of my keys have had the switch break off and I am sick and tired of soldering them back on - what a terrible design flaw!

If it is possible how do you code the new key to the car and do you have to change all the locks too?

Cheers

Yes its possible, all you need is the four digit code for the working alarm key (one with dodgy switch), then i can talk you through how to do it.

Re: Fiat Transponder Key

Yeah I actually got 2x 4 digit codes - one on a fob attached to the red key and one on a card in the car docs. Maybe its had the locks changed at some point?

As for the new key would this one work and is that the alarm and CL button in the middle of the key or just a battery?

Awaiting your instructions

No that wont work as it doesn't have a button on the key and its not a fiat key, its an aftermarket transponder key, no alarm/RCL gubbins inside.

Re: Fiat Transponder Key

What about this one?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-BRAVA-PAN...3A1|240%3A1318

I can wait until the right kind of key becomes available on Ebay or even go to the dealer I suppose - just fed up of my keys with the buttons on the side where they break off eventually

You can use the old ones from a Multipla, Bravo, Brava, Marea, Old, Punto & Coupe (I think).

This is the one you should be looking for...

These are found on some Bravos, Multiplas and Punto.

Re: Fiat Transponder Key

Just found one of that type on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-STILO-DIA...3A1|240%3A1318

Quick question: Can the blade section be replaced with a blank or blade from my keys?

Cheers

Re: Fiat Transponder Key

Ok got myself a key of the type you suggested - what next?

Also is it possible to change the key blade of the replacement key so it fits my locks?

Last question - once recoded will this new key also turn my alarm on/off like the originals did?

Cheers

I doubt the key blade can be changed. Best asking a locksmith/key cutter.

You first will need to program the new key into the alarm system. Heres the procedure i nicked from an old thread as i can't be bothered looking up the procedure from the Fiat Manuals however i've read it and its correct.

You will a 4 digit code from an existing old blue key, then you will need to follow the procedure below.

all you have to do is:

-Press the button that is between your courtesy light and the ultrasonic sensors on the roof of your car (near sunroof switch)
-Release the button after a second or two
-After a couple of seconds the LED will flash once
-Enter the first digit of your 4 digit code by pressing the button the relevant number of times ( If you have a 0 then press nothing and wait for the next single LED flash)
-After a couple of seconds the LED will flash once
-Repeat this for the next 3 digits of the code.

If the code was correct the LED will flash for approximately 10 seconds.
(If the code was incorrect the LED will remain on for 10seconds, so start from the beginning when the LED goes out)

-With the LED flashing press and hold the button on the car and then press and hold the button on the key. Keep them both pressed until the LED stops flashing and remains on.
-Release the button on the remote, then the one on the car.

now what heppens next depends on the age of the car. some cars have a red LED others have a green LED.

for a red LED, if the programming was successful the LED will flash 6 times, but if it was unsuccessful the LED will flash 18 times

for a green LED, if the programming was successful the LED will flash 8 times (i think, maybe less), but if it was unsuccessful the LED will stay on for a few seconds (8 i think?)

As above yes it will if its done correctly. If you mean will it start the car, no not yet. What you need to do is open up your old key and carefully remove the immobilisor chip, do the same for the new key. Now fit the old chip into the new key, then close the key.

Your new key will now work the central locking, alarm and will start the car.

Re: Fiat Transponder Key

Hi Guys,
Just read this post. I bought one of those keys in brand new condition. red light flashed etc. However it would not load into Bravo receiver and I assumed it had a different remote coding system, so did not look any further into it. Hope I'm wrong
Tony
BTW those fobs disintegrate also.
