I have just purchased a fiat brava sx 1.2. But so far I've had nothing but problems! :(

After I've driven approx 15miles the fuel injector light comes on. The car then seems to lose a bit of power. Before the light comes on the car drives very smoothly.

The other morning driving home the light came on again, followed by the battery light and the oil light and the steering went really heavy.
I waited at the roadside for the RAC to come for about 1hr. When they came the car was running absolutely fine again and they couldn't find a problem with it!! :bang:

I now daren't take the car on a longish journey in fear it'll break down!

I've also noticed a strong smell of fuel inside the car, the man I bought it off said someone had spilt some fuel in there but I'm not sure as its not wearing off and I'm worryed it maybe connected to the problems I'm having!

Please can someone shed any light on my problems!

the easiest thing would be to get the ecu read, this should tell you exactly whats gone wrong

1st issue sounds like a temp senser giving out of range readings

2nd issue, your car had stalled, thats why the steering got heavy and the dash lights come on

fuel, i suppose this could link back to the 1st issue, may not be a temp issue, but a o-ring on a injector gone. this could cause the smell of fuel

go get the ecu read, this will tell you exactly whats wrong

Ive had exactly the same problem for a while now. Also when cruising the car would not accelerate during the first 1/3 travel of the accelerator then suddenly kick in an accelerate. Am getting a diagnositc run tomorrow will let you know what happens,

Edit: Sorry did not add mine is a '98 Brava 1.4sx

I had similar and my diagnostics showed it was the Throttle Position Sensor.

Theyre expensive so I hope thats not the case with yours

My 1.4sx Brava Has Been Doing This A While I Changed H.T Leads, Plugs etc But No Luck Also I Cant Find Anyone (except fiat) That Have The equipement to read the ecu (Non OBD2)

I found when the light comes on and it starts to struggle i just pull over and wait a few minutes and its fine! ITS JUST CRAZY!!!!

Do you think the temp sensor could cause this????

Got diagnostics done; faulty throttle position sensor.

However, and its a big one, engine started making horrific squeeking noises, def not fan belt squeek although sounds like one x1000. Def coming from engine however car now being scrapped as mechanics think engine about to seize despite normal oil levels and care taken over car. Wont turn over for more than 5 seconds unless throttle held open.

i dunno if an engine is going to seize they usually just go end of with no warning! mine did'nt when it went! have you checked the timing belt? as its incase in plastic it would echo the noise a bit aswell!!
