Hello, I have e VSS error displayed in VISA UNISCAN.
Where is this sensor located ? What's the purpose of the sensor ?
The car is working just fine, should i be worried about it ?
And if someone knows the part number so i can find it in EPER.

My car is Fiat Bravo JTD105 2000 year.

Think that the vss can serve several tasks, some cars use the sensor for speedo, I think power steering weight which increases at speed may also use this sensor and Automatics may use it to help determine gear selection.

I know diesels use a pump speed sensor to determine fuel efficiency its possible its offset against a vss signal as well as other sensor readings to determine speed, engine speed and load.

Am a little out my depth here so hopefully someone more technical will offer better explanation.

:)

It's located on the top of the differential.

Look at the rear of the gearbox and follow the gearbox to the left and u will See a black cylinder shape plastic part with a wire with blue insulation coming from it, and thats the speedo sensor (y).

and (if feature fitted) turns up the radio the faster you go(y)

So far i'm leaving it as it is.
The car is working just fine, speedo is ok, i'm not using fabric radio and the gear is manual.

Any influence on fuel consumption ?

On the JTD the VSS signal is fed to the ECU to allow it to determine when the cog-box is in top gear for cruising fuelling and timing calculations - if the speedo is working then its likely a wiring problem.

Does your car have ABS as the VSS on most modern cars are now controlled through the ABS unit as there is a wheel speed sensor which is linked to the ABS.

Strange you should have a fault if its working normally.

Sorry, that is not a solution.I did it for several months and now it's time to deal with it.

How to check the sensor ?
On Punto there is need of a new wire.

One more thing, according to ECU - vehicle speed is always 0.
The odometer reading in Unidiag i 0 too.

Common practice in Bulgaria is returning the mileage, before they sell the car.

So I need help tracing the 3 wires from the VSS connector.
One is GN, second - 12v - those are easy to find.
The third - signal wire, should go to the speedo (cause it is working) and then from speedo to the ECU.

Anyone can help with schematic ?

Problem solved.
VSS has 2 purposes in JTD:
1. for speedo
2. for ECU

It has 3 wires:
- 12v taken from pin 14(connector A) of the Control panel.
- GND
- Signal - goes to pin 17(connector A) of the Control panel.

Then from pin 12 (connector A) to pin C26 of the ECU.
There was my problem. The wire was interrupted.
