hey,:bang:
Ive run into a complete mystery with my bravos starting trouble,
ive got a fiat bravo 1.4 12valve, since having it ive rebuilt the engine(piston rings, conrod shells, head gasket, valve seals, camshaft kit) since then ive fitted a new alternator, starter motor, battery, earth strap, crank sensor.
But after all this it still has starting troubles.
Its abit strange it starts in mornings or when left a while fine but still not perfect. If the car is switch of then back on again or after being shops its really struggles to turn over, almost like theres not enough power.
Sometimes if you keep trying to turn over the engine it will suddendly speed up and fire up.
Im really had it with this car but it would be a shame to end it now after all the work its had done.
If anyone can help with this mystery ill really appreciated it.
Cheers
Rich

Dont know the engines intimately, but there is only so many things it can be.
2 main causes must be:-
1/ starter motor/battery set up in trouble.
2/ engine too stiff when warm.

something I came across once only was a ring gear machined incorrectly, but thats so rare its unlikely.

You have covered the battery/leads/earths etc. Dirty brushes on the starter will cut the starter power down by 50%, but you say you fitted a new one.

Engine gets stiff when warm looks to be the only answer. You could try a spanner on pulley bolt when hot and cold and compare effort required.

If it is tight when hot then a check of correct shells on rods and crank also see if pistons are pinching also ring gaps are correct.

Hey,
Yes mate the starter is new also,
ive tried turning it over manually by rachet and its is pretty simple just tough when the compression stroke comes.
It does start up fine soemtimes, and also struggles when engine is cold or hot more often when hot. I tried attaching jump lead from battery to engine to check earth and it fired up ok, will cleaning the connections help?
cheers

Dont know what the layout of leads is on that car, but there must be clean contacts from battery to lead, lead to engine casing. also battery to bodywork. Likewise a good +ve contact from battery to starter motor.
