Hi all,

I've got a major problem and I'm hoping someone will have a nice and simple answer for me (Yeah right, it's a Fiat - theres never a simple answer!)

Last night I got some batteries for the key that I fixed the other day, sync'ed it to the car as per someone on here's instruction and it worked a treat.(y)

Got home and locked the car, half an hour later went to go out and the car wouldn't unlock. Opened it with the key and of course the alarm went off, three times........

I tried re-syncing the key but it just wont work, meaning I'm stuck with a locked, alarmed car thats going nowhere.:bang:

Anyone got any (constructive!) idea's?

Thanks guys

Lee

If you have the key for the alarm you can turn it off. the switch is in the same area as the fuse box (just below the streeing wheel). just simply turn it off.

Dont think uk models had a key. Remove the alarm or snip the supply lead to it is a possibility.
From what I can find out from the information around is this:-
When the remotes are entered from new the last key entered is the master, and its code is transferred to the alarm system.
Any new key entered must be entered using the master code or the alarm misbehaves.
Have not proved the above, but believe it to be correct.

Thanks for your help, do you know where the alarm is? Its a 98 HGT. I think I read somewhere that it's in the N/S wheelarch?

If I can get to it and disconnect it from the outside of the car though, wouldn't it be rather easy to disable it if I were stealing it?

Nobody has ever stolen one of those cars without the ignition key, the immobiliser is something quite different. The alarm just frightens away would be thieves. Never taken an alarm off so cant help you there.

you need the alarm diasrmed before the remote reciever will listern to keys

i would take the battery off lock every door on the car and wait

the alarm will go off but due to the age of the backup battery not for long

now after an hour or so put the battery back on the car will beep once for locked and armed you must hold down the bonet switch to make sure it thinks the hole car is locked

then wile it's all shut press the button on key and wait for it to finish unlocking

that should reset it and get it working

it's posibly caused when the alarm and remote receiver get mixed up as to weather the car is meant to be locked and armed or open

can happen if the battery is not producing enough power and only one of the 2 ecus is responding

if you press the remote a second time after it does nothing does it lock unlock 4 times and carry on setting the alarm off

we have to do this quite often at work if a battery has been off and then reconected when the car is unlocked

Not any more Jug, I've ripped the whole lot out now, just looking for a new alarm. Viper ones look reasonable - I was just going to install a new alarm and have done with it.

Fiat electronics are a bit too flakey for my liking!!! At least with a seperate alarm theres less chance of me being locked out again! (and if it does go wrong I'll know how it's wired and be able to rip it out easier)

Thanks
