i have a fiat bravo 1.4 sx 1998

i noticed a bit of oil on the inside of a pipe where i have to replace with an air filter i wanted to put on, i have cleaned this, along with spark plugs being changed because they had oil on them.

thought i would leave for a week, before putting on the air filter to see if probs occur again, sparks are fine, but the pipe still has a bit of oil there again. somebody has recently changed the rocker cover as i can see a seal around it, would this need to be changed again do you think?

so far since buying the bravo i have

changed:

ht leads
spark plugs
timing belt
coil pack

repaired a leak on cam cover gasket

repaired air leak from exhaust manifold with paste

and the car running seems to have improved considerably but.... !

.... when the car is not warm n i first drive off, i put it in first, when its time to change gear it wont happen! just gets stuck, this is only between 1 - 2, or downshift from 2 - 1.

secondly the revs are at 1500rpm when i first switch on, until a few minutes after driving, is this normal? anything to worry about?

lastly, there is a SLIGHT judder when my foot goes all the way down on the acc pedal, like it is losing power for a milisecond, a garage had told me i could have a leak from the downpipe of exhaust... could this be it??

SOMEBODY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ANSWER these questions for me as well as possible, the time and effort it has taken already is enough to fix it.

somebody help, any advice appreciated, thanks!!!

the oil is there because that pipe is part of the crankcase ventilation system. if it didnt have oil i would be far more concerned.

the notchy gearchange into 1st and 2nd isnt unsual with a cold gearbox. try replacing the fluid (use castrol) and add some molylube. it can really make a big difference. slick50 doesnt work so avoid it.

the 1500rpm cold idle is ok as long as it sits at 800-900 rpm once it warms up.

the judder is difficult to diagnose over the internet. i'd really need to see it for myself.

ok will it still be fine for me to replace the pipe with an air filter?
