My Bravo has just developed a click when I depress the clutch. Same happens when the clutch is released.

I read elsewhere that it could be a White Cap which could be worn and needs greasing. Does anyone know where this cap is? I looked under the clutch pedal (inside the car) and the click is coming from under the engine compartment. Does this suggest that I need a new cluch cable or worse still a new clutch and cable? Bravo has done 60K and I am not heavy on clutches (last car, a Citroen did 120K on first clutch!).

Any views and thoughts would be gratefully appreciated. I am new to the Forum but impressed with all the info.

Cheers for any help!

Nigel

Yes, that's a Known problem of 80% of the Bravos. Don't worry it has a simple resolution, lubrification in the clutch swtich and the noise will go way. :D

Thanks for replies and it looks as though I can resolve with some lubrication to the Clutch Switch. Don't want to sound like a complete novice but can you please tell me where the clutch switch is? If there are any pics or diagrams it would help.

Also apologies for posting in the wrong section - I didn't see the year bit and I'm fairly new to the forum!

Cheers

Glad you got the solution anyway eventually (y)

the only "clutch switch" i have heard of on any car is an electric switch used to prevent the car starting unless you press the clutch pedal. your car doesnt have one of them, and even if it did it couldn't be the cause of your noise.

your clutch doesnt use a cable, it is hydraulic. there is a cylinder behind the pedal and another on top of the gearbox. a clicking from the engine bay is most likely to be the slave cylinder or the clutch itself. pop the bonnet and get a friend to pump the clutch while you try to determine if the slave cylinder on top of gearbox is clicking (touch it with your finger when the click occurs, if the slave cylinder is clicking you'll fear the vibration in your finger).

where did you hear about the "white cap"? if i can read the info you got it may help me figure out what you are talking about. it isnt an issue i have heard of before.

Hi my Bravo is the 1.2SX - I will pop up the bonnet and have a look/listen and feel for the offending click.

The white cap reference was from the Stilo part of the forum so it looks as though this isn't relevant to my problem. I was just searching for any clues!

I will update you later once I've had a look under the bonnet.

Thanks

My 1.6 clutch gets a sort of click. feels more like a notch in the clutch pedal after 'giving it the beans' i dont hear a click from it though.

I asume it's the seal on the slave cylinder piston catching after getting hot and causing the piston to expand slightly.

Is this the same problem your getting or is yours constant?

The click is there every time I press the pedal and release and it is loudest at the gear box end. I've been out to try and find the offending part but failed so I'll have another look tomorrow and will try and see a friendly mechanic. The "good news" is that I/we are not alone. I've owned the car for just over 12 months and this is the first thing to have caused me any grief.

Just been to the local dealership and an independent garage. Fiat tell me the car needs a new clutch and after much calculator pressing reached a figure of £300 incl VAT. Similar price from local garage but the latter more relaxed and said to see how it goes for a month or two.

I can change gear OK - the click has gone away strangely but the cluch is now stiffer than it was. So it looks like I need a new clutch which at 61K miles on the clock I am surprised about.

Is this a fair price for a new clutch?

£300 is abit much. On my old clio when it siad it should take 8 hours (i laughed) i took it down the local mechanic and he charged £100 inc vat. if you shop around and barta you should get it much lower than £300
