can anybody tell me , i got a new battery last week , and still every now and then it won,t start , as if its got a flat battery , a guy told me it could well be a dodgy starter motor , i need advice on this. tnx

yeah it'll be the starter motor if it does nothing at all when you try to start.

obviously if the engine is turning voer when you try to start it then the starter motor is doing its job and it must be something else (usually crank sensor)

i am currently having this problem in this lovely cold weather we are having. the motor is turning the engine but very slowly like a flat battery and is still the same with a brand new battery fitted. could it be moisture in the starter is frozen and making it sluggish. average temp round here has been -8c,
Also is it possible to remove the starter without raising the front off the ground. not possible due to 1.5ft snow and parked on hill.
any help really appreciated.

thanks.

richard

The moisture thing seems a bit unlikely to me. Try either a jump

jumping car + to dead car +
jumping car - to dead car chassis earth (or solid metal part of engine)

Or/and try a single jump lead from battery -ive (on your car) to near the starter motor (your car).

Winter shows up bad batteries and poor earths (and 85% of electrical problems are probably bad earths).

thanks for the tips fingers.

have tried your suggestions and it is still the same. could this be the starter beginning to seize or something. if i take the plugs out she will turn over but still slowly. not as fast as it should. think i might just have to get a new starter.
she just wont turn fast enough to fire.
