Talking Brakes

Hi all,

I am considering upgrading my brakes because i seem to cook them quite alot. I was wondering what is the best option:

1. Coupe brakes - Not sure how much worked need thou
2. Grooved and drilled with pads
3. rear disc conversion - again not sure how much work

any other info would be great

coupe brakes would probably involve a bigger master cylinder for the extra braking pressure i think the grooved and drilled with pads would be the best option, the rear disc conversion is a lot of work for little difference and you would need to get a whole rear subframe from a 20v bravo with hubs e.t.c if i remember correctly

Re: Brakes

no point in rear discs, they only do 10% or the braking.

upgrade the pads and discs, that makes a big difference to fade at high temperatures.

if your brakes have solid discs then upgrade to the brakes with vented discs, wont cost much at all getting calipers from a scrapyard.

Re: Brakes

crap pads fade quickly, get some black diamond pads
http://www.blackdiamondperformance.com/brakes_fiat.htm

also get some grooved discs, any brand will do tbh.

and also learn to use engine braking more, its an important part of driving fast.

Re: Brakes

i engine brake aswell its hard to keep up without engine braking and hard braking if you have a slower car.

Would the drilled and groved be better or is there not alot of difference

I would say i am a capable to good drive and i know where the limits are hence havn't crashed while i have had my license (4 years no claims) but i would never say i am a great driver otherwise i would do it professional.

grooves prevent pad glaze effectively, drilled holes dont really do anything other than look pretty.

Re: Brakes

Braided hoses, silicone brake fluid....

There must be some crazy driving happening to cook road brakes TBH. Expect it on a track or circuit but on the road?

Surface area is important to cool brakes, hence the ventilating, that increases the surface of the disc exposed to air. Competition pads would help but are sh*te until hot...
