New Exhaust needed on 1.2 80sx

Looks like I'm going to need to replace the exhaust on the 1.2 80sx Bravo, (2001 Y-reg).

Couple of questions, where would they commonly start blowing on the standard system, and will this be okay to drive for a few more days until it's fixed?

I'll probably take it to the local exhaust centre. Do you think I should call them before? Or is this a common enough car/component that they should have a stock of these?

And finally - no point in fitting an aftermarket/performance system is there? I believe there's an aluminised steel system made by Sportex for about the £170 area.

<Sigh> At least I'm saving money on fuel. The 80sx just sips petrol. Compared with the Coupe which tends to binge drink the stuff.

Re: New Exhaust needed on 1.2 80sx

its usually the flexi-joint that leaks, but it could be anywhere. i would not expect them to have the parts you need in stock, actually i would be very surprised if they did have them in stock.

fitting an aftermarket exhaust will make it sound nice so its worth it imo, but dont expect any real change in performance.

powerflow will build and fit a custoim made stainless steel exhaust for not too much money, and it will last for ever, add value to the car, sound great, and you can chose from loads of tail pipe designs.

Thanks Jug.

Presumably if it is the flex-joint, thats part of of front pipe isn't it, before the Cat? So a new exhaust wouldn't fix that?

correct, although technically "exhaust" refers to the whole thing, so you mean replacing the rear section alone wont fix it.
