I really hope someone on here can help me. I'm new to the forum so please be gentle!

I have a 1999 T reg Fiat Bravo 2 litre 20v 5 cylinder and am having major problems starting it!

The only way to get the car to start is by setting the alarm with the blue key, disconnecting the main battery and then waiting for the alarm/immobiliser back up battery to run down.
Once it has run flat, if you then reconnect the main car battery, switch off the alarm with the blue key and turn the ignition key, it leaps in to life!!
It will then tick over and run perfectly until the ignition is turned off and it won't start again until you repeat the above process!! :bang:

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong and more importantly how do I fix the problem??

Helen xx

the alarm has nothing at all to do with the engine starting so it cant be the problem.

when it fails to start is the key code light remaining lit? (suggesting immob fault)

when it fails to start, if you leave it to cool for an hour and then try, will it start? (suggesting crank sensor fault)

when it fails to start is the starter motor turning slowly? (suggesting earth strap corrosion leading to excess resistance when warm)

How did you find that method out??? :) It sure wouldn't be the first thing to spring into my mind. LOL. I would listen to what Jug mentioned to find the solution.
