Hi,

I think i have blown the fuse for the central looking while seeing if i had power to put a car cd player in. The fuses to the right of steering wheel all look fine and after looking in haynes manual it says that there is a 20amp fuse for central locking but the diagram is not very good it apears to be on the passanger side but i still can`t find it.

any help please.

Brava 1.2 16v 2000.

Probably behind the glovebox! You will need to take the inner skin if the glovebox out, there are a good few screws holding it in place. Once you have them all out, it should just slide out.

I`ve taken the glove box out and found the relay and in the haynes manual it say the is a 20 amp fuse there somwhere if so is it a blade fuse? also is there anyway to test a relay?

i never found the fuse behind the glovebox even though the manual says it is there.

you can test the relay by giving it a live and an earth and then earthing either of the switching pins to see if the live is routed correctly (its a negatively switched system). the relay is pretty bulletproof.

Hi,

You were right the fuse was the one i cheak before on the right of the steering wheel it was blown now that i have changed it central locking works fine. thanks

Also i have connected the tester to the leads for the cd player and am getting nothing to indicate power.

i belief
red = permant feed
black = earth
orange = ingnition (only when ingnition live)
yellow/black = radio light feed.
is there a fuse for this? i belief it is the one i just replaced.
if this is correct where would you suggest connecting to get a power and earth.
thanks.

Hi,

I`ve tested the wires the one that i belief was permanent red does nothing
red/orange seems to = live
orange/blue seems to = ingnition live
does this sound right and should i be ok to proceed with instalation of head unit?
Thanks.

On the subject of central locking and without hijacking this post,

the central locking on my brava worked fine until a few weeks ago when is started working intermitant.
It has now completely stopped working. :(

Would i be able to fix this myself  i dont have a clue about it lol

cheers

Hi seanbhoy,

it sounds as if you have intermittant power
is the battery in good nick and fully charged?
Have you checked the fuse it is on the top row 3rd one in(mine did not look blown)
the relay is in the clove compartment after you remove cover the relay is the square yellow one give it a push
you might want to check if you have power up to there by getting a crcuit tester and puting black end on a earth and red on the red wire.
also haynes manual has dianostic section for all or part failing central locking you can get the manual at halfords.

hope this is of some help.

beefy: use an ISO wiring harness and avoid the hassle of guessing the wiring. you will need to swap the live and ignition wires round on the harness (they're backwards on fiats)

seanboy: i agree with beefy, i would check for power at the yellow relay behind glovebox. assuming you have power, check the relay's earth. if they're both ok then i would replace the relay.

have you checked the locking doesnt work form both doors? it could be a problem with only the driver's door, in which case the above advice doesnt apply and you need to check the connection in the door.

Hi jug,

Is the fitting by fiat an iso? All speaker wires have been cut as have live, ingnition live and earth (by a previous owner)so i was just going to rewire as was but now will swap them around.

oh crap they've been cut! i hate it when people do that. the fiat connectors are ISO, the only different to standard ISO layout is the live and ignition wires are swapped.

hi jug,

I got an iso and fitted head unit all works well including central locking.
THANKS for your help.
