Hi there, wonder if anybody could help me out,

Ive got a T reg bravo 1.2SX, battery went flat yesterday because i had left the internal light on, on accident, so took the battery off and charged it.

Put battery back on, started it up...running fine, took it a run out...fine

this morning started it up and it is now revving itself up and down from like 1500rpm to 2500 rpm, drove it round for 20 mins, still doing the same, and wont stop, done ECU restet, doesnt do anything. Cleaned butterfly valve, stripped throttle position sensor, nothing seems to be wrong with those.

one thing i have noticed is that the breather pipe has some oil by the looks of it inside it, could this be the problem? ive also recently fitted an induction kit, but tried it with the standard air filter back on and it just does the same.

any help much appreciated (y)

common problem on the 1.2, often after the battery is disturbed. the ecu is out of sync with the throttle position sensor range. disconnect battery for an hour, then reconnect battery, switch ignition on, wait 90 secs, switch ignition off, wait 90 secs, start engine, wait 5 mins. switch engine off, and all should be well. if it isnt then you either have a faulty throttle position sensor or you need to use a fiat examiner to force the range relearn procedure.

ok ive found the problem,

its deffinatly the throttle position sensor/potentiometer

ive stripped it down and had a look, all it is, is a motor with a worm gear on it and a cog that sits on top of the potentiometer. put it back together and connected it up without screwing it back onto the throttle body and car idled perfectly, however screwed it back on and its still revving high but less than before,

how do i get the ecu to learn the idle position of the potentiometer? ive tried taking the battery off and doing what you said, but doesent work.

maybe going to the scrap yard and getting another throttle sensor unit might be the best idea???

many thanks for your help

i see in another thread you solved it using the washer spacer method.

in theory a good TPS would not need to use this method, it would be interesting to know if a scrapyard TPS worked when fitted normally without using washers to space it.

hey

ill let you know,

im going to get one from the scrap on the weekend, it could be the tps thats nakered or its the ECU out of sync with it,

need a new one anyway, broke the clips when i took it apart lol, works tho still,

hope a new tps solves the problem, dont like it bodged with a washer lol
