Need some help please just aquired a V reg bravo it has the following :eek:simtoms when cold wont rev and splutters, leave to warm up about 3min and it ok to about 4000rpm if you accelerate gently,if you accelertate hard it cuts out
bit of a problem when you need the horses to overtake and there is no responce after 4000rpm :bang:
any advice welcome
cheers

Any warning lights coming up on the dash, especially the injector light ?

Usually a dead/dying MAF causes probs up to 3000rpm, but strange you're getting probs over 4000rpm.

Could possibly be an injector packing up... the more you put your foot done, the more fuel tries to go through and it won't have it.

Quarter fill your tank and stick a whole bottle of injector cleaner through.... it might help the problem. If not, a diagnostic test at a decent garage is the only other option.

in my experience MAF problems cause powerloss above 3000rpm, but when they finally die you get a lumpy idle and full power at higher rpm. so in this case i would try cleaning the MAF with an alcohol spray.

no warnig light and if you accel slowly while driving wilgo over 4000rpm it only losses power when you floor it

try disconnecting the MAF, if you suddenly have power at high rpm then you know its the MAF, this is a simple and free way to test the MAF theory.

thanks for advice disconnected maf loads of power I contacted fiat agent £150 is there an alternative or an improved version for more performance

you can get them cheap on ebay. some people say these MAFs work fine, some people have reported problems, for £25 its worth a try. if you want an original MAF for cheap use shop4parts.co.uk

there are no 'performance' MAFs on the market, however i modify the MAF housing to basically create a performance MAF, and i guarantee you can tell the difference. al you need to do is make the MAF housing narrower,. to do that i cut a section of plastic pipe and then insert it into the MAF housing and screw it in place, job done. this causes slight overfueling and increased ignition advance because the MAF tells the ecu that more air is entering than there really is.
