Morning chaps. :)

As the title, where would be a recommended place to buy a new set of HT leads for my Bravo? (2001 plate, Bravo 1.2 80sx).

Idle speed is fine, but seems slightly less smooth than it used to be. Nothing excessive, but more noticeable. Certainly a little more noticeable than my Dads MkII Punto 1.2 elx (with the same engine, I believe).

Advice, as always, appreciated greatly.

:)

Thanks, Jug.

Good stuff - so they're not difficult to get hold of? As they quite unique in terms of their long connectors, which go right down into the head on these engines.

Plugs were changed when I did the last service, only a couple of weeks ago, with the cambelt. ;)

Idle smoothness has gradually deterioted since the last 6 months or so, and I thought the service might clear this up.

One question - is this the first thing you'd look at if idle was slightly rougher than it used to be?

Thanks again for the (invaluable) info.

:)

it could take your local motorfactor up to 4 hours to get them in stock, but usually they keep them in stock.

i would always make sure a car is well serviced at the beginning of any diagnosis. bad leads are responsaible for many problems.

Thanks again, Jug.

Cars service history, prior to me owning it, shows to be regular. Since I've owned the Bravo, I did a full service the first week I bought her. Then recently a full service again (under 12 months, and only 6.5k miles). But it doesn't cost much to service a car these days if you DIY, and regular oil changes and services are the key to a reliable long lifed car, (at least that's what I keeip telling myself).

That said, the HT leads have never been changed, (I've a feeling the could be the original from manufacture ones). Which is why I'm assuming these could be breaking down and creating the slight wobble in the idle speed...

:)

a full service (every 20k) includes the leads, so i wonder what else your full service has been missing? consult the service schedule to make sure you aren't missing anything else.

Fair enough. Will order new sparks and leads at the same time. Just a shame the spark plugs on these 1.2 engines are more expensive than most others...

Whilst I'm on the subject of spark plugs. My Uno Turbo from years ago, would run with the 3-pronged plugs. (Similar to the Bosch 4 variety, expect with 3). Do you guys think there might be a smoothness/economy/better pickup by using a 4 or 3 pronged plug on the 1.2 engine. And if so, does one exist for the 1.2 engine?

Fair comment.

That said, perhaps I'm going by the wrong book... :)

My full service is:

New Oil,
New Oil Filter,
New Air Filter,
New spark plugs,
New Fuel Filter,
Renew Coolant,

Bravo's had this twice in my 11 months of ownership.

Also replaced:

Shock Absorbers Front
Shock Absorbers Back
New Front Wishbones
New Drop Link Bushes
New Cambelt & tensioner

Checked during routine maintenance and services:

Aux Belts
Hydraulic Fluid
Front Brakes
Exhaust System

Jug, anything missing off the top of your head that you think I've been remiss on?

:)

only ever use the correct plugs for your car. in this case that is NGK DCPR8EKC for a 05/99-07/99 model and NGK DCPR8E-N for 07/99 onwards.

check the service schedule in the fiat workshop manual (vol3 for your car)
