Hi folks first time post, owned a couple of unos over the years and bought a Multipla couple of years ago had no problems. Decided to buy a 1.4 12v Brava, whos cam belt had snapped. bought 2nd hand engine fitted all running fine. for a week, (old engine now in scrappy) today got a miss fire on acceleration found no 4 plug cracked earthing out, replace plugs all ok for 10 minutes got another miss fire, on closer inspection found no 3 plug lead corroded at plug end back to halfords new leads all fitted fine start up another miss fire now i don't have any spark coming from no 3 at the distributor.......:bang:
is there any thing i can check or is it a new dizzy unit 1, 2 and 4 all spark fine.
how much can i expect to pay for a new one or where in Kent (Rochester) can i get one from.
your help will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.
Dave..:)

there is no dizzy on this engine, it is a coil pack. a scrapyard replacement will be £10. the 1.4 is easy to find in scrapyards. HOWEVER a coilpack fault will result in the loss of sparking on 2 cylinders (a coiled pair) so that cant be your problem, so carefully check the lead and plug. it is not unusual to damage an HT lead when fitting/removing so that may be the problem (especially with crappy halford stuff, go to a motorfactor in future, you'll save a few quid)

thanks for the advice, i went to scrappy 1st thing, bought new coil pack £20 threw in set of mats, bless(dizzy) replaced it all fine, definatly no spark from no 3 tested it again before i changed it just to make sure.
thanks for your help all fine, paid £60 for it with tax and mot,oh and a snapped cam belt changed engine and a service all running for £250 if i get a year out of it im happy.

bargain motor (y)

its good to see someone else who can get an engine replaced for less than a million quid, i was beginning to think the whole world had gone mad.

It was just ironic that all 3 items, no 4 plug cracked no 3 lead corroded and coil packed up with in 20 minutes of each other.

I'm an out of work mechanic in Kent if any bodys stuck for a service lol

i could never afford to work in a garage, you earn so much more working for yourself. once word gets about that there is a mechanic who does jobs cheap you'll have your mobile ringing so often you'll come to dread it. go to a mcdonalds carpark on a friday night and have a bit of crack with the boyracers, they always want things doing and they pay good money. install your ice? certainly that'll be £50. want a universal backbox fitting? no probs give me £25. foglights on that bumper sir? i can book you in for friday morning, £30 should cover it. all of a sudden you get phone calls 5 times a day that go something like: "hi my name is baz, i got your number from tez, he said you can do stuff on cars, how much would you want to do 'xxxx' on my car?". its great.
