:bang: help!
brought a 97 brava four years ago with only one blue key.no problems until last week key broke in ignition barrell. could not remove. changed ingition and barrel that came with keys eventually changed immobilser. no luck car won't start.
do i need the matching ecu?
when switching on one click the panel lights came on when trying to turn engine over panel went off and needles on speedo/tach bounced back and forth a couple of times.
any helpful advice very welcome.
thanks

yes you need the matching ecu.

however you could stick your old immob back in (assume you mean the black box behind dash near fusebox?), then take the chip out your old key and stick it in one of the new keys. then it would work.

or you could have replaced nothing at all and had a new key made at timpsons for £20. once you recovered the broken parts from your barrel they could make and code a new key for you.

the keys supplied with the new ignition switch do not appear to be able to open up - they come from a later model perhaps the style of key code was changed??

smash off the bits you dont need with a hammer, all you really need is the metal part to operate the ignition barrel, you can use all the rest from your old key.

smashed a bit too much - metal bits split and old broken key stuck in cylinder split down centre..
no timpsons in Northern ireland - found a mobile service who says can copy code from original key and put it onto the 2nd hand keys - which should if i'm correct work with my old black box and ecu? - hopefully!

yes that will work, however in my experience the keys can only be written to once so i dont know how they plan to put your original code on to the 2nd hand keys.

they had to cut and supply a new key used the chip off the original key.
Replaced the original black box in car
put key in turned one click all lights on dash came on as normal even code key light came on then went off. radio worked. wipers worked etc
Turned key to start engine - nothing - again needles on clocks bounced back and forth.
Tried again but lights on dash very dim is it the battery? would the battery have suffcient power for electrics but not enough to even turn car engine slighty?

yeah it sounds like the battery is flat. the fact that the code light went off means the immob is fine, plus the immob doesnt stop the starter motor turning, so the battery is almost certainly the problem now.

thanks so much for you advice - yes the final problem was the battery.
car going well - but no key for door locks and air bag light stays on oh well - happy enough.
