Hello, I am new to this site, but I need help!! I had a new clutch fitted last week and I drove it back from the garage, parked it and basically went to bed.
The next morning and since then it won’t tick over, you have to start it with your foot on the pedal, it runs superb until you stop or put the clutch in.
That fault light is on the dash, but to honest I can’t afford now to have it plugged in, the clutch cost me £150.
The bloke at the garage has had a play about with it, but I think he doesn’t want to know.
I can’t get my head around it, it drives superb, no knocking or juddering, it just won’t tick over.
Please does anyone have any ideas!!

Thank you.

if it was fine before the clutch change then obviously something has been disturbed or damaged during the gearbox replacement so the garage that fitted the gearbox are responsible for fixing it at no extra cost to you. crankshaft position sensor is top of the list, maybe its connector has come off.

Hello all,

I took my beloved bravo for a diagnostic check up on Saturday, and he plugged it in set everything up right and it run fine (although the car was hot).
Give me 2 error codes from the ecu, and said he would have to email someone for more info on the codes, but he said it should run fine now. Well it doesn’t!! Same problem, wont tick over when cold. No choke on and when its warm it barely ticks over because I have adjusted the accelerator cable.
So do any of you know what error code 20 and 24 mean??? Please!!

Thank you.
:bang:

all error codes are 4 numerical characters, they are usually given with a P prefix, but a code reader will not show you that P. for example P1105 could be a fault code, or a code reader it would show as 1105.

so code 20 and 24 must be P0020 and P0024.

P0020 means "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 2)
P0024 means "B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2)

so it means your timing is out or if you have a variator (20v model) then that may be faulty or its circuit may be damaged, or it could simply have a dirty connector on the variator. if you do not have a 20v engine then i do not think P0020 should be possible because other models do not have variable valve timing, so i hope you have a 20v :)

by the way, when i say variator i mean the thing that controls variable valve timing, it is also called a cam solenoid or a cam actuator. its the little motor that moves the camshaft sprocket.

Thanks for your help mate!! And no it a 1.6 16v and to be honest all that has gone over my head!! So those 2 code meanings then, would that make it not tick over?

if the timing is out then it cant idle correctly because compression is lost, this will also affect fuel consumption and power. since you dont have a variator you should just get the timing corrected and see if that sorts it out. its possible that the timing belt slipped on one or both cam sprockets or on the crank sprocket.
