My friend has a 1998 1.6 Brava and I tried to change the fuel filter, the grey 'tags' broke off the connectors as soon as I touched them and I can't figure out how the d**m things come off! Advice welcomed.
Also the rear wiper doesn't work, only on intermittent setting, and there is a clicking from the wiper motor area when the ignition is turned on. Is there a relay in there or is it something more serious? Again advice wecomed.
Thanks in advance.
Pete.

Can't help with the fuel filter problem i'm afraid but the problem with the rear wiper is probably the grease on the "wipe" contacts has dried and the fingers are not connecting with the plate, you need to remove the rear wiper motor and clean the plate with a solvent such as methelated spirit and re-apply a thin film of contact grease.I don't know where you could get the grease,I used some I use at work but it did the job and so far 8 years down the road no more "clicking" rear wiper.Try not to use grease that will dry up such as vaseline.Hope this helps.regards.

I thought the back wiper only worked "intermittent style", Unless there is something wrong with mine too!

I've had the clicking in the boot too. I took the motor out and separated the control pack from the motor and the track that the 3 prongs push against was dirty and slightly corroded. So I cleared it up and its worked fine since

Thanks for the replies, yes the wiper is on intermittent but I had not realised that, it not being my car! To stop the clicking I just flicked the control a couple of times and it seems ok at the moment, will have a look at the contacts when I have the tailgate panel off (again!) to try and find out why water isnt getting through to the rear jets. I think the pipe must be kinked somewhere but I am not sure which side the pipe runs through the roof, will try gentle air pressure and see what happens, aint life grand!!

I think the rear wiper is supposed to work intermittantly.
As for the clicking noise, I use to clean the connectors on the tailgate and to get rid of it.... As for the water jet, the valve might be clogged, try to clean it or replace it with a pice of pipe of some sort. You can find it under the bonnet just beneath the windshield to the right, just follow the hose :)
Hope this helps!

You lads on this forum are brilliant! Found the non return valve after searching through the postings and yes, it's blocked! Will get one tomorrow and that should be another satisfied customer! The information on here is very welcome.
