Hi, so previously I was having problems and decided to register here for help, however due to email trouble i couldnt complete registration. Anyways I now have fixed on my car what seems to be a fault that is plaguing these forums for so many people and I thought I would shed some light on the situation...
So I bought this Brava 1600 16V Automatic 'V' Registered (99/2000) and got it cheap on the knowing that there was an injector light kept coming on. So I tried the obvious which was run the petrol down then 1/4 fill with optimax and a full bottle of redex and did this twice, but the problem just seemed to get worse! Then the weather started cooling and the light would be on all the time and engine would run terrible mainly on 3/4 cylinders. Then I tried the other 'obvious' thing and took it to a garage and asked for a computer checkup of the engine. I refused on principle to tell the mechanic of the fault as i wanted him to investigate the car thoroughly. He came back with a number 3 injector fault.

So I gave the car to a mechanic whose a friend of our neighbours and he double checked this and said that it definetly was a number 3 injector. What he also tolled me was that the most common fault they are always having with 1600 fiat engines is the injectors are always failing and having to be repaired. He said it was a common fault just on these engines. Anyway, a full strip down of the manifold and £280 quid later I get the car back and its as sound as a pound! This even fixed the irratic idle problems I was having as well :) So the bottom line I would say to the never ending posts coming up is this;
If you are having problems with an injector light and having bad performance/irratic engine behaviour on a 1600 fiat brava/o then your most likely looking at a new injector which will require a strip down of the manifold
I hope many read this and find it useful in solving their engine problems ;) Puballday

£280!!!! Crazy money.
Indeed :(
£47 for computer testing, £91 for jet and rest on 3 hours labour, well thats how he broke it down :s

Guess in future ill turn to you guys should i have any more troubles :D Things are fine though at minute, apart from it doesnt start from cold without pressing accelerator otherwise it cuts out, once revs up its fine though :)

if you read the millions of previous posts about this issue you would have found detailed instructions telling you how to diagnose and repair this fault for £5-10, its an easy DIY fix, we usually see it several times a week on the forum. £280 is a disgrace, you've been ripped off good and proper. :(

to be far, if you are new to DIY on cars, its not a bad price. At least the problem was diagnosed and repaired correctly in one go by the garage, who are likely to be a general garage rather than a specialist.

just a thought. are injectors interchangeable btw different car makes/models?

can't imagine if the world was short on bravo 100 injectors.

there are hundreds of different types of injector, but companies such as bosch supply many different manufacturers so you expect the same injector to get used on different engines and with different brands, the dimensions, flow rate, operating pressure and signal voltage are the only real differences between them all. the injector used on the 1.6 fiat twin cam is bound to be used on other cars, but i dont know which. there is no shortage of 1.6 bravo brava or marea models in scrapyards, quite the opposite, there are more in scrapyards than on the roads.

Hear hear Agree with that I keep looking for a '1.2 16v' To nick the air box off it but cannot bloody find them. Loads of 1.6 16v's though.

I can't find this guide, can anyone show me a link? I have this problem.

if only you lived near me mate iv got a 1.2 and the air box just sat in the corner of my garage, needed space for an induction kit

if you search the forum for posts by me (jug) and use the search term injector you will find huindreds of posts with info about this issue.

to save you time, the most important bits are detailed below :)

the easiest way to check if you have an injector problem is to measure the resistacne of all injectors with a multimeter.

to measure the resistance of the injectors, disconnect the injector wiring harness connector. this is at the right hand side of the fuel rail when looking in engine bay. inside the connector there are 5 pins. the centre pin is the earth. touch the black terminal of the multimeter on this pin. the other 4 pins are each for an injector. touch the red terminal of the multimeter on each of these pins, making a note of the resistance for each pin.

each injector should have a resistance between 14.5-15ohms. if any are lower than 13ohms i would replace them.

a brief DIY guide for replacing an injector is:
remove the 2 bolts holding upper inlet manifold to head
-reomve 2 bolts holding dip stick to manifold and rotate the dip stick pipe out the way
-remove 5 torx bolts holding upper inlet manifold to lower inlet manifold
-remove the 2 bolts lines from the back left of the upper inlet manifold
-remove the 2 torx bolts holding the bracket for the 2 fuel lines to the upper inlet manifold (back left)
-raise the upper inlet manifold a few inches by wedging something underneath it.
-remove the bracket at the right hand side of the lower inlet manifold. cant remember what its for but theres 2 bolts, one at top one at bottom. bottom one is hard to get at. use an open ended offset spanner.
-remove the 3 torx bolts that hold the fuel rail to the head
-pull the fuel rail (hard) so the injectors are clear of the head
-slide the fuel rail to the right so it can be removed, this may require the battery to be removed for clearnance, and the fuel lines will need to be slid along to the right as well
-remove the fuel injector wiring harness from the fuel rail
-remove the injectors (each one has a metal clip)

a haynes manual will give more detail and pics.

Thanks for all the help so far, I think I have a busy few days ahead of me with this car.

for all on fiat forum, hope somebody is listening one of the most likely problems with injector light coming on is (fuses under bonnet ) they are well known to perish, fiat problem. have a check if all mouldy you replace them may actually save you a bit money. i did that never had a prblem since

I had this problem and was waiting for the time to be able to spend the day sorting it. In the mean time I switched to the premium unleaded petrol instead of the cheaper stuff and put some redex injector cleaner in. After two tanks the light has gone out and all is well.

How many people with this problem are using cheaper fuel?
