hello again

there's a small high clicking noise upfront,during idling. heard only from inside the car. i guess 1/4 ( or maybe half )the engine's frequency. goes away when i press the clutch from 2/3 way. it has to be clutch related. but how?

my front right suspension has a lot of negative camber, the difference is such that left and right handers feel disconnected. is there any part that might be bent that can be replaced cheaply?

Someone with more knowledge on the clutch will be able to answer better than me on the first query.

But I have a slight suspension fetish ;) , so I can hopefully give some help on the second question you have.

Negative camber on the Bravo, is usually caused by lowered springs. Presumably your car isn't lowered at the front?

If not, the other components to check are the lower wishbones, (inc there ball joints), and top mount on the shock. Unless it's had a hard knock on the front, I doubt that the wishbone could bend. (It's cast metal, and more likely to crack, than bend). You can also check the sprong on the side affected. Signs of cracking or damage could indicate a problem.

Have good close look, and compare both sides (the good one against the bad), and see if you can spot any differences.

Lastly, are you sure the camber is out? And not just tracking or balance on the front wheels?

Tracking: if you have too much:

Tow-out, where from a birds eye perspective, the wheels point \------/, will lead to outside edge tyre wear. And vague/wandering steering on normal roads, in a straight line, and corners.

Tow-in, where from a birds eye perspective, the wheels point /------\, will lead to inside edge tyre wear, (similar to negative camber wear). And vague/pulling/wandering steering on normal roads, in a straight line and corners.

If it makes a noise when your foot is not on the clutch and stops making it once you press the clutch pedal down then it is most likely to be the release bearing.

dont you mean the exact opposite of that :D

follow the 3 rules.
1. if noise when pedal not pressed it is one of the bearings in gearbox
2. if noise when pedal is pressed half way it is release bearing (aka thrust bearing, throw-out bearing)
3. if noise only starts when pedal fully pressed it is pilot bearing
 
oh thanks a lot guys. very helpful.

im checking the gearbox this weekend. hopefully its just a loose bolt or something simple. hopefully. the metallic clicking noise only occurs during neutral idling.

anyways just back from the workshop to replace the cat, noticed the right suspension ( where there's negative camber ) droops lower by an inch or two. could this be spring/absorber related?

yes, the front looks lower than the rear so i guess the previous owner must've done something. but i dont see toeing like i see camber.

oh dear. could be ARB, could even be loose bolts on the turret, could be wishbone bushes. realistically it cant be the shock or the spring unless different brand shocks are used on each side, and even then i'd be shocked (get it)
 
I'm wondering whether the spring has snapped a coil of on the offending side?

I guess if some of the new Fiats can do this, then maybe there's a chance the Bravo can... very, very, rarely.

then bravoitis must mean dampers that won't rebound. which is what happened to the front left one. it was scraping the abarth bodykit too, but was in the middle of a highway and couldn't pull over.

yes, the impossible has happened. broken dampers. never happened to me in my 6 years of driving various wagens. time to wake up and smell the oil.

:eek: I've never heard of that either. The amount of energy in a compressed suspension spring you'd have thought would be enough to push the stuck damper back up!
 
unless..unless the springs have lost their compression.
(is this possible)

anyways, got hold of magneti marelli cofap dampers. apparently they're the oem ones, so im gonna be riding high..but wait..
