Hi Ben,

Now i'm no expert on Fiats but am used to other makes of car and am quite logical... Sounds to me like the cold start system isn't working. I assume that once warmed up the car re-starts ok? :) Normally my first point of call would be a CTS sensor (Coolant Temperature Sensor) This sensor registers how cold the car is and sends the signal to the ECU (computer) this then applies more fuel and less air until the engine has warmed up. I'm pretty sure the Fiat uses this system. Otherwise.

This is a really good forum with some knowledgable Fiat people such as............. Jug, The Beast, MountainMachine, Dave, Hellcat Helz... To name but a small few.

There will always be someone to sort a problem ;) (y)

bridges is right, your cold start strategy is not controlling the cold idle.

this is based on the coolant temperature reading and the battery voltage.

on the 1.4 model a dodgy battery can easily cause this problem, if your temp gauge on the dash is working fine then i'd check the battery. if the temp gauge isnt working as expected then you need to diagnose that problem.

on the other hand, its also possible that the ecu is getting the correct coolant temp sensor signal and the battery is fine, but the problem is instead the idle speed control actuator or its microswitch. the ecu is trying to control the idle rpm but it cant because the actuator wont move inot the correct position. the idle speed actuator is fixed to the side of the throttle case. if you still have your old one available try swapping them over, the part you need to replace is no7 in the attached pic.

ok nice one peeps ill try the battory if that dont work il try the idle speed, the other ething is when it has warmed up it seems to be ideling a bit to fast i mean is 13000 15000 to high or is that fine .....

il be back .......
