Sorry if this has been asked before - I wish I knew how to to an exact match search on this forum, rather then any of the words - but as the question above, what should the standard tyre size be for the standard 15" alloys on a Bravo 1.2 16v (80 sx).

Many thanks in advance.

:)

the standard tyre size for 15's is 185/55/15.

personally i prefer 195/50/15, it gives a firmer ride, more grip, looks better, and they cost less.

Thanks very much.

In that case I have the correct size.

And I'll go for the 195/50 r15 size instead (on the front), as the fronts look like the original tyres from new, and are looking close to minimum, with the side walls showing wear too.

 Actually, I have original Coupe 20vt rims in the shed, in good condition..... probably the wrong tyre size on though - can't remember the size.

:)

they're 16s so the tyres wont fit :) (or do you mean the alloys, they will fit ok even with the coupe size tyres on)

i want 20vT alloys A LOT!! they're the best alloys money can buy.

The Coop Tyres have their own rubber on. All in hardly worn condition too.

Jug - Sent you a PM. :)

Will probably just stick with putting new rubber on the standard Bravo Alloys, which for stock items are quite pretty.

:)

Had a brief look last night at the Coupe wheels & Tyres. All look good with plenty of meat left on the rubber. But I don't think it's possible to fit them directly to a Bravo, without changing the tyres to a small size for the Bravo rolling radius.

The Bravo runs: 185/55 r15 (standard), The Coupe runs: 205/50 r16 (standard). So it would knock the rolling radius out by fitting the Coupe rims with the standard Coupe size tyres on. What you'd really need would be the Coupe rims, but running something like: 195/45 r16. That way you'd have the correct rolling radius.

Accoring to the Miata tyre size calculator just swapping, without chaing the rubber on the Coupe rims, would knock the Bravo speedo out by 4.6%. And at an indicated 60mph, I'd be travelling at 62.8mph.

I guess it depends on how much the standard speedo over-reads on standard rims, would this just then make the speedo actually more accurate?

And, probably more importantly, would 205/50 r16 rubber fit. Or would their be some rubbing somewhere? To me the Bravo arches look pretty big over the 185/55 r15 set up as standard.

:)

205/50 r16 will fit without rubbing, other people have managed 215/45/17 on a bravo without problems.

funnily enough it should make your speedo more accurate because the standard setup has the speedo reading 5mph over on average (as with almost all cars). my gps confirms that on my bravo.

the main problem with a larger rolling radius is the effect of your performance. it effectively lengthens the final gear ratio, which reduces acceleration. thats the bit i'm most concerned about.

i agree with your suggestion of 195/45 r16, if i was fitting 20vT alloys on my bravo thats the tyre size i'd most probably use. if you shop about for budget tyres you'll be looking at £200 for a set of 4.

So they'd fit. And would work too....

I've got the full service, new shocks, new wishbones to do this weekend. I could at least fit them after that, and see how it feels for a week. If it does make the car almost impossibly slow, then either will go with two new front tyres for the standard alloys. Or four budget tyres at 195/45 for the Coupe wheels.

I'm not overly worried about performance though - just an under-reading speedo, as I don't want to end up with speeding tickets because of that...

The Coupe is my car for performance, so if I ever have the need for that, I can just jump in that. Now, she's running 215/35 r18 rubber. Imagine what that would be like on the Bravo!

:)

Not too bad. The complete set was from "Topgear" about 2 years ago. Apprx £750.

But as we all say on the Coupe Forum: "Why have money? When you can have a Coupe."
