Well to cut a long story short, was with my gf in the motor listening to music etc then went away to start the car but i had drainned the battery so out comes the yellow card of the A.A.

A third party mechanic came and started the car, but unknown to me has used a battery charger so send a surge through the E.C.U unit frying the alarm system.

So letters and fone calls to A.A but aint got no where, had fiat check it out but the computer didnt even find it, but the alarm system l.e.d works and the alarm sometimes sound but its like a cat getting strangled, the indicators dont work. Any ideas?

Also sometimes ( rarely ) the car idles very strangly i.e like it going to stall then reves up from 750 - 1100 where it should be 900.... works fine when i drive away but bit sluggish.

Cheers

UPDATE

Think i know what the problem is, after the ' kind ' mechanic jumped started my car back to life i think that the alarm system memory could have then went back to the closed or protected state.

So i would have to program the pin code i have with the Red key and then program the united kindgom setting for the siren and the indicators.

Sounds all to good to be true so i give it a go and see what happens.......

For those who have the red key and code, just a bit of a random question...... like me have you not one nor two BUT THREE codes attached to your red key????????

Cheers

UPDATE 2

As above the alarm system had went into protective mode. so had to put in the 4 digit code so get it out of the mode, then press my key fob so the reciever picked up the info from that which it did, i then opened the bonnet where i manually told the alarm system which country i the car was in Number 5 for the U.K. :) Left it for cpl minutes closed the bonnet and activiated the key fob and hay like magic back to the normal state..... Indicators flashing when activated and then flashing when deactivated aswell as the beeps. :slayer: And to make sure it worked i sat in the car and activated the alarm so when i moved it would set it off which it did and the siren blaired much to my joy but then i realised it was 8.30am in the morning :p :p .

So after nearly two months without the alarm you can imagine the joy that i worked it out :slayer: :slayer: after all i am only a chef :D :D

Check your idle control valve, may need cleaning, mine idled erratically until i cleaned it, its only been 2 days but its idling ok for now

For those who have the red key and code, just a bit of a random question...... like me have you not one nor two BUT THREE codes attached to your red key????????

the red key does not have any codes that come with it.
the red key has nothing at all to do with the alarm or remote central locking.

on mk1 models you should get 2 different codes on paper keyrings, each code is for a remote key. on mk2 models you do not get any codes.

if you have 3 codes it is possible that a remote has been replaced in the past. you can program up to 8 remotes at once.

Hane been informed that my alarm and central locking system is in my interior light. question if I buy a new/secondhand unit will the sensor still work with my keys?

yes the receiver is in the interior light assembly, but the controller (alarm ecu) is not.

you can fit another receiver without any problems, the code is not stored here so changing it is not a problem.
