:) Hi...New to the site..Firstly i will say hi to all....
These sites are so helpful as was for my last car (leon cupra) on the seat web site....
This diesel is just a run about while my Mazda BOngo conversion is completed into a full blown camper..

Anyway enough of that...

I have various little niggles with the recent purchase..

1. Need two door handles...both disintergrated..( which boso decided to make them out of rubber)
2. No rear wiper and Motor not working or washer...
3. after starting engine glow plug light flashes 30 secs then goes out...
4.Need a new plastic door window switch....Not the electrical gubbins. the plastic switch has broke its clips...
5.. sunroof has slight rust on inside and you can hear the wind when its closed...Its hard to tell the stopping point between the tilt and slide to know its fully shut...

My questions im really bothered about is..
1 Do i need to change the glow plugs bearing in mind the flashing light/mileage?
2.. There are TWO types of wiper arms on ebay...One with a push fit type and one with abolt on type....Which is it? Mine is 99v TD sX theres a bolt directly left on the car on a U shape peice left over....
3. I dont have the manual to check wether to change cam belt/ tensioner etc..
4.Should i change the fuel filter? Its running fine by the way..
5Lastly....I have some DEZENT alloys new which i got for a fiesta which i had for a month but never fitted them.....
Apparently they will go on Vaux. PUGS, fords....BUT will they go on my FIAT????

Thanks for your advice, chiefster.....In LEEDS...:slayer:

ALL bravo/a's have rubber door handles. a slight rub down with wet/dry sandpaper and then a buff with tyre shine will make them look a 1000 times better, or you can purchase a set of fiat marea handles which are made of plastic. If your lucky you can find these at your local scrappy, along with the electric window switch!

There is nothing wrong with the actual rear wiper dont bother replacing it, just the motor. pick one up from your local sprappy for able £10 or possibly ebay. Not sure on how to fix the rear washer, you could try blowing through the pipe by disconnecting it from the washer motor, this often works.

Id always recommend changing the fuel filter asap as you can never trust prev owners/garages. should be done every 10,000 miles at least.
If you have no record of the cambelt being changed, get it done asap as the cambelt should be replaced at 70,000. You can usually check for wear on the existing cambelt. if it hasnt been replaced, teeth should be wearing out and rubber will be slighly perished.

Need to know the PCD of the alloys to know if they will fit. Fiats have a PCD of 98, You need Wobbly bolts if the PCD is 100 but is the PCD is anything higher, the alloys will not fit. Also need the offset (fiat offset 37) and the amount of studs. And i wouldnt recommend fitting anything more than 17"s on a bravo/a.

only item im not sure of is the glow plugs. all i can say is try replacing them, and if the fault still occurs, then it could be a damaged/dirty sensor.

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your bravo!

A little progress at the scrappies....
Rear wiper arm replaced for a fiver...:slayer:
door switch( lets just say aquired)
3 bravas in the scrappie and one bravo...only one passenger handle is unmarked( poxy rubber handles arhhh) (n)
No drivers side as yet...I managed to get the door card off etc and looked in the door handle and can see one 10mm bolt easy to get to and all i can see then is the steel rod in the far corner...how the hell do i get to stripping the rest of the handle off..need to make a trip to the scrappie once i have the technical knowledge!!!

Had oil change fuel /air filters... Not sure on glow plugs..trying to get the service history first before paying £160 for cam belt/tensioner etc fitted!!

Anyone know which is the fuse for the rear wiper??? or does the fuse operate front AND rear wipers??? if thats the case its not the fuse as the fronts are working....( no rear wiper operation)..

dezent alloys a no go!!! dont fit..Brand new as well...Arhhh
If anyone knows someone who is interested in them please let me know.....

I will have to find some nice 15" bravo hgt alloys or something...

problems outstanding

1. locate fuse to check motor has really gone for rear wiper..
2.. figure out or get advice from you lovely people how to take out the door handles?
(y)
oh and find some alloys...and a valet.....

Have you put a multimeter across the rear wiper power? They are renound for the shaft rusting within the plastic outer resulting in a seized wiper. Sometimes can be fixed by simply knocking out the shaft then cleaning up and re-greasing. Sometimes the motor will have burnt out too. Can be replaced from another brava or if you take the motor and gearbox apart you will find marea/bravo/punto have same motor and gearbox.

o.k will check that there is power to the motor tomorrow...Im not a electricery person but if i go to the scrappies and take off a motor can i test it by using a small 12v battery and connect the wires to the motor or something? Will there be an obvious way of testing it? Once i take the motor away from the scrap yard and try and fit it they may not take it back if its dud.....

Anyone know if there will be a wire in place for a CD changer for my car and what type of wire conncetion is it?? what types are available to go straight in the bravo?? 1999 TD 100 SX..(y)

OK, one by one...

The answer was to check the opposite way - if you're getting power to the motor on your car. Use a bulb + two wires to do it. If positive, dismantle either your old or new motor (or both) to clean and lubricate the shaft. Dismantle the motor itself to see if the brushes, their holders and the comutator are clean. Clean them if needed. Assemble again and do a test run.

With some luck you'll end up with two perfectly working motors.

As far as the changer is concerned it is very unlikely you'll have the cable. Only MK1s had it factory fitted.

You may want to buy a Grundig MCD changer + cable on eBay. However, you have to check if you radio supports it - it has to be clearly stated on the fascia.

Otherwise it may be wise to buy a non-stock radio supporting CDs and/or MP3s.

Another thing: rear water spray - check if return valve is healthy (seated inside the engine bay - just follow the lines from the water tank). Replace if needed (or repair using some very, very thin rubber, or errr...latex).

chiefster1976;1125679 5.. sunroof has slight rust on inside and you can hear the wind when its closed...Its hard to tell the stopping point between the tilt and slide to know its fully shut... [/QUOTE said:
it is fully shut when it stops moving. you keep your finger on the button and the relay autmatically stops it for you.

wind noise is normal, keep the sliding cover closed, or replace the sunroof seal (£30 at dealer) although that makes little difference really, wind noise is to be expected. rust is due to water sitting between the seal and the metal surround it sits in. removing the seal allows you to clean it up, then glue the seal back in place. this also reduces wind noise and leaking.

thanks for the info!! very helpful...will check rear wiper motors this weekend!!

seen loads of changers on ebay.....Im guessing i will not have the cable for the changer....however my radio cassette clearly states cd compatable......
some people on ebay selling changers with 13 pin plug...will this fit my stereo? (before i bid!!) thanks..

Im guessing i will not have the cable for the changer

most models do have it fitted, so have a look.

if the rear wash isnt working it will either be because the pipe has popped off at the back in the hatch (which then squirts water on the wiper motor, killing it)
or the non-return valve in the enigne bay is blocked up. the non-return valve is hidden behind the engine bay fusebox, if you follow the pi0pe from the water bottle you'll find where it goes behind the fusebox, and hopefully you'll see the small black plastic parts, thats the non-return valve.

Still have the rear wash to sort on Bunny's bravo. Shows how important it is :p

A good way to test wiper motor is to take the inner lining off the hatch, then go to a scrap yard, plug the new motor onto the wire and see if it works. That's what I did with my green marea.

i always go there to see products i want in the flesh - like my headunit for example, but never buy anything :p
wanted to see the build quality and range of units avaliable, picked one out at £350, went home and bought it on amazon for £130 hehe!

29p? wow :)

Rear wiper sorted a couple picked up from the local scrappies.....bought one for a spare but will sell for £20..in full working order...old one that isnt working you can take away for spares also....pick up in leeds if anyone interested..

just to let everyone know...my first trip to to scrappies once i stripped two motors off two cars trying both on my car didnt work:(

As the vehicles i took them out of were P or R reg...mine is a 99V....
the difference...the earlier models have basically everthing the same except the plug that connects your main cable is larger than the later models...
Dont panic as with mine the motor was shot not the PCB( black box where the connector goes into) so change them around and hey presto job done....

just need a changer cable and a changer...(y)

The sunroof on my 1.4sx i had waayyyyyyyyy back in 1998 didnt stop when it should have, i had to flick the button once it got close to being closed to get it to stop in the correct position
