Getting some 6x9s for my brava

nothing below 300watts - im thinking 3 way Pioneer A6911's?
anyone have any recommendations? i have £30-50 to spend and nothing from Halfrauds or ebay please, online prices are cheaper :)

also, would it be best to make a new shelf from MDF and carpet it or cut holes in my existing one? (i was mainly thinking of vibration)

and do slealth shelves effect the sound of speakers?

The A6911's are class speakers. A few of my friends have them and there great. I have made my parcel shelf out of Ply wood as it wont warp as much as MDF. Theres a picture in my sig of the shelf.

only use RMS figures for wattage, if they arent quoted it usually means the 6x9s aren't worth buying. you can only compare RMS figures, peak or max or pmpo or anything else is not a reliable method of comparing speakers.

the Pioneer A6911's are 80wRMS, which shows they can pack a punch, but if you run them off a headunit they'll suffer. they really need to be amped.

i'd rather have JBL P953's (110wRMS), or JBL GTO937's (100wRMS).

6x9s are never as good as a set of components, for example a set of JBL C508GTi's will be much better.

well obviously but i dont have £200+ to pay for a set of JBL C508GTIs.

ive always been a fan of JBL as i have a 1000w sub and amp kit in my car which has been phenomenal! i just couldnt find a good set of JBL 6x9s.
the JBL GTO937s seem like an excellent but though! thanks Jug!

i would like to amp them up (just sold a 330w amp with wires for £25 on ebay 2 months ago :()
my JBL amp is bridgeable, would you recommend running the 6x9s off this or just the headunit?

here are the specs of my amp:
97 watts RMS x 2 channel at 4 ohms
145 watts RMS x 2 channel at 2 ohms
290 watts RMS X 1 channel at 4 ohms bridged

Don't bother with 6x9s - spend the money on the front end.

meaning front speakers?
the tweaters will get upgraded eventually, but im not really willing to take off the door card to replace the door speakers :|

or did you mean spend money on engine :S

if this amp is already running your sub, you can't use it to also run your 6x9s unless it has "tri-mode".

if you used this amp you would need to use it on 2 channel mode @ 4ohms (which would be perfect for the 6x9s in question)

I agree with the other comments that the front speakers are more important. back speakers arent even needed at all, it would be better to invest in some really good components in the front. all 6x9s are pretty crap (but still good for a budget system), if you do have speakers in the rear its better to have components there as well.

If I was to replace the speakers in my Bravo, how would I replace the tweeters and mount the new ones?

Would I need full range speakers for in the doors? Also, are these the only speakers in the Bravo? I read somewhere that it is a 6 speaker system?

Thanks

i have mounted my tweeters on top of the original tweeter covers, i made a small hole in the cover to pass the wire through.

in the doors you do not want full range speakers, there would be no point having high frequency output down near your feet. you should use passive crossovers to seperate the high and mid ranges, send the high to the tweeters and mid to the doors. in the doors fit mid range speakers. a set of components will come with 2 tweeters, 2 mids and 2 crossovers.

there are also 2 speakers in the rear, either side of the parcel shelf.

Is there any way to put the tweeters inside where the standard ones go?

Where would I put the crossovers, and what should I replace the rear speakers with?

Thanks

It doesn't matter where you put the crossovers - just put them somewhere secure and conveinient. Just disconnect the rear speakers - don't bother with changing them.
