When I have the passenger side window closed fully, and I close the door..upon impact, the door makes a "clunk" noise instead of the traditional "thud".

However, when the window is open an inch or more, and the door is closed, there is no noise - just how it should sound!

Does anyone have any idea what the heck is causing this?

It has been on-going for months, and have now had enough of it!

sounds like play on the central window runner. wedge some cardboard inbetween the glass and the door (on the inside) and then try it again, if the clunk is gone then play on the runner is the problem.

Hinges etc are okay and yes, it does have Marea handles. Thing is, it's strange it should only happen if the window is open less than an inch or fully closed - not otherwise

Hmm, have also just tried the cardboard approach, but still has the same symptoms :(

The noise it makes is a sort of...vibrating clunk of a noise - I recorded the sound of it, hoping maybe I can stick it on here so it could help diagnose the problem...but don't think I can upload sound here

Mwahahaha, I found it! (well, a friend did - but I'm taking the credit)

Pulling the plastic bit off the dorcard back and looking at the handle area, it was a bit of the locking mechanism...there should be a bolt holding it in place...looks like one of the previous owners shaved it off (when installing marea handles maybe), and had stuck it together with adhesive which has obviously failed over the years...so when i put it in place (not used adhesive yet), no more noise ^ ^
