Right i used to get a clonk from the nearside suspension. Found it to be a nakard ball joint on the end of the lowerwish bone. The farside was replaced just before i bought the car. Then there was no clonking or anything unusual. Now there is a clonk returned (The side i just replaced the old wishbone). Sounds the same. I have looked from under the car and all the ball joints seem sound. Its only when i turn sharply or when i go over a bump it happens.

Also today i noticed if i drive really slow there is another clonk coming from the other side of the car (drivers). This is a clonk clonk clonk which will speed up as the car gets faster untill i cant hear it over the sound of the car rolling. I dont know if this is a wheel bearing but i have jacked it up and checked for play in the wheel. Theres none and no visual signs of problems.

I dont have a clue what either could be

God damn my suspension :bang:

Oh and another thing i forgot to say about my second problem, when it was jacked up i put it in gear and let the wheels spin off the ground to see if the nocking noise was there but it wasnt. So it only makes a nocking noise under load

on nearside i would expect the arb drop link to be the cause.

on the offside its hard to say, since it only makes the noise when the car's load is on the wheel it suggests to me that the problem is more likely to be a loose wheel bearing nut or a buckled wheel or blebbed tyre. anything else should make the noise with the car jacked up. try jacking up all 4 wheels to test for the noise, its not unusual for a noise to sound like its coming from the wrong place. also try to determine of the noise stops under breaking or turning left or right.

I have tested for the noise when turning and its still there. I dont think its anything to do with the tyre its a constant clonk clonk and i can feel it through the car. A quick sharp nocking noise.

hmm.. if its the rear then it could be something in the rear drum break knoking about?

or maybe the exhaust banging on the car?

Didnt get a chance to check but the problem is worse now. Getting a clonking sound when applying or de applying presure on the accelarator. Thought this could be that 3 pronged metal piece inside the inner cv boot?

jack car up, get a clamp on an inner drive shaft, hold it steady using the clamp, then get your glamorous assistant to move the front wheel in rapid back and forth motions to see if you can get the cv joint to make the noise. if there is any play in the joint it will make noises.

just thought id tell you i have fixed both probs. The 1st one was a nut needed tightening on the ball joint at the end of the wishbone as it was sliding up and clonking back down the shaft.

2nd was getting worse as i took it to my mechanic today. Thought it was a nakard CV joint but turned out to be that the last garage i was at didnt tighten up the bolts on the wheel! All sorted now. Cheers for all the help.

I know i went to them just asking about why the car was vibrating at about 40 an it was because i didnt put the plasic rings on the alloys (doh) so they said oh we will do that quick for you. So i got the plastic bits and they put them on quickly. I thought ill bung them a 5a for doing it as it was quick and they are a tyre place. Then they charged me £20 for it and now i no they didnt even tighten the bolts up properly! :bang:
