I've been trying to remove the old passenger side mirror to replace it with a new one I bought on eBay (some kid actually ran into the mirror and totalled it).

I've seen this thread,

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/questio...QKSZVW3d7NbZIpJBgx.?qid=20070115043120AAxn7M0

So far I have the cover off, and the large plastic nut is exposed. How do I get it off? Is there some kind of special spanner required? I've tried easing back the one way winders using a needle nosed pliers as suggested above, but trying to turn the nut still does nothing.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!!!!

I cant remember if there was a little screw that stops the large plastic nut turning like on a KA,, but have you any vise grips or large pliers, adjustable spanner and they should remove it (anticlockwise he he ) and the fitting is the opposite of removal, (haynes special words HA!!) have a look at the new one, and be careful when removing the plastic FRAGILE!! cover as they are broken easily, good luck Ant!

Sorry for digging up such an old thread, but I just bumped into this problem today. You can replace the wing mirrors on MK2 Punto in less than 5 minutes :)

Thing is, you need a pair of needle bent nose pliers like these: http://www.hyperclaw.com/pic/products/needle-bent-nose-plier-1-L.jpg
so you can grab and unscrew the big plastic nut holding the mirror to the wing.

Hope this helps.

These pliers cost about £32
The cheapest I found a new mirror, £18

So to do it yourself, unless you already own a pair of these weird pliers, is £50 in the uk. Iwonder how much those stupid rip off merchants at Fiat would charge + Labour/

long needle nose pliers will do the job. just be careful not to break the plastic nut. this was the 1st job i did when i got the car as the passenger side mirror has broken. i did it with no mechanical skills and only held my license for about 3 months so it must be an easy job. lol.

Hi
I found its more hassle than its worth. It might be fun if you like that kind of thing but for me, having to go an buy extra tools and then because I dont have a garage I'm open to the elements. I ended up getting my part and having it fitted by the Wing Mirror Man. Good deal to, £121 all in including a brand new wing mirror, spraying and fitting. Was going to set me back £250 just for the wing mirror from the dealers. My mate put me on to them after he was going to shell out for a full wing mirror but when he speak with one of the guys there they recommended just changing the cover and the glass because the rest of the wing mirror was OK. Here's the link if your interested wingmirrormancouk or you can just search wingmirrorman in ggogle. If you give them a ring they are really knowledgeable if you're struggling to sort things out

Duffers. :D
