DIY rust repairs

What's the best method for doing a DIY job on rust bubbles forming around wheel arches, wings and the bonnet?

Of course, the best course is replacement panels or a professional repair but what can you do yourself on a limited budget?

Can you sand down the rust, fill, prime and paint with a pot of touch-up stuff?

Yes, you can do it yourself. Sand down the rust -then use an anti-rust compound to treat the metal - something like 'Kurust':

Then you would prime/fill the area and rub it down again with fine sandpaper.

You would then spray primer onto it, then the spray paint itself. On top of the spray paint you would then have to spray clear lacquer (or use a touch-up pot if available).

A decent car accessory shop will have everything you need. An independent accessory shop would be a better choice.

Only if the rust is on the surface of the metal,if it's coming through from the back of the metal ie it's eaten through then you are wasting your time the bad metal needs cutting out and new welding in .
