Hi. My mk2 punto 04 started to make a sound. It sounded like a electric sound , very much like a car makes going in reverse . I looked it up on the web ,as you do, and all things pointed to the cam/timing belt. So I got a mechanic to come look. he said it was not the belt but was coming from the wheels somewhere. He said it was the drive shaft and also a barring . so I got him to replace both. but After he did there was no change in the sound of the car. he then said I was probably right and the timing belt needs changing, But after paying him for the drive shaft and barring I don't have enough money to fix the belt :( is my car safe to drive ?

Hi. Why did you pay for work you didnt need..??
Its relatively simple to detect driveshaft noises..and a belt noise will NOT need thecar moving..

Where are you..the car..based..?

He said I needed the dive shaft fixing anyway. I wish I had not paid him as he may have put in two new parts that HE said need doing, but he did not do what I wanted him to do and sort out the sound. I am in Derbyshire. Anyway I have put the car up for sale, can't afford to fix it and the power steering keeps going as well .

Hi, :)
sounds like the alternator is the actual fault.., as the power steering is the 1st thing that will effect;)
