I Vaguely remember reading on here recently that it's simple isn to do. You remove the door card, then the speaker and that gives you access to the part of the door required.

There is also a Stilo service CD thing, which details how to get to the check bars and swap them. But people said that it was a longer winded process following that guide.

I need to find a check bar first. The replacements are plastic and I want a metal one.

as I can't quite see how you'd still get a "crack noise" if nothing was connected,

in my experience of door generally, wear in the 6mm pin that secures the strap to the cars A pillar, can induce a loud CRACK / pistol shot from the door area..!!
