Filler and piant

My rear panel on my sei is really badly damaged and needs a good bita filler in... Then painting over with.

Im getting quotes IRO £250 so im thinking of doing it my self with some fiberglass filler and some paint... is it worth trying with no experience what-so-ever?

worse comes to worse i will have to pay to get it done...
any tips and advice on what to do will be appreciated...

Thank you!

Re: Filler and piant

If its £250 worth of damage, it's probably too bad for someone with no experience to make it look any good (unless you are good at that type of thing?) If you try it an it goes pear-shaped, it could end up costing more than the original £250 to get it right.

If you really want to have a bash, make sure you follow all of the instructions, take your time etc (usual advice) have a look on t'internet for some guides?

Re: Filler and piant

dont use fiberglass or filler . the idea is get the panel as straight as humanly possible before using any filler.

if you take a picture of the damage i will advise you on how it would be best to pull the dent out. there are several ways in which i remove dents from rear quarters it just depends what sort or location of your dent is.

keep me updated and il do my best to help you mate

a lot of work there bud. If it was me repairing it then i'd put a new rear quarter on it. To be honest that car is a write off

Re: Filler and piant

as has just been said mate that needs a new rear quarter ideally. its making me wonder what sort of repair that garage are going to carry out for that price and that amount of damage i wouldnt expect anything specatcular and actually if they are just going to fill it i wouldnt waste the money on it.

if i was to repair that i would have to do a new rear quarter coz thats just no good at all mate

Re: Filler and piant

they said £250 Fill and spray..both front wing and rear...
they are sayin that with a new quater the have to cut and grind. etc... then paint so i will cost a lot more... does that sound right?

what about the front wing is that easy to do?

Thanks for the advice

Bolts on with a spot of glue / Bolts off. Easy.

I wouldnt repair that. Crush it, it represents something rather dangerous. If youre quoted £250 for all that work thats quite amazing, as Id hazard its much nearer 2-3 times that.

Re: Filler and piant

the quarter panel is spot welded in. To remove, the spot welds need to be drilled out and then the seams where the quarter panel meets its surrounding panels need to be seperated.

The new panel needs trimming to size and put in using flexible adhesive and spot/mig welding. then needs painting.

Quite costly

Hence as well as the wing I think it would be an insurance write off.

The fact that someone would attempt to fill this scares me. The panel has stretched and twisted. Filler should not be used in this way. It will crack out.

Re: Filler and piant

i wouldnt even drive it mte its a death trap like that. if some1 hits you its over. dont waste the money paying some1 to fill it. all that is doing is hiding the damage temporarily untill the filler falls out.

i wuld strip it and get another shell mate. it would take a new rer quarter and then your looking at a couple of days labour before you have paid parts etc. if you were closer to me i would fit a new quarter for you but to be honest mate you will be throwing good money after bad.
