window tint?

window tint?

Hi mate,

The legal limit is 70% opacity. Be carefull though, as on quite a few modern cars, they come out of the factory with around 72% or so meaning that adding any tint will make it illegal. That limit only applies to the front side 2 windows and windscreen. The rest of the widows can be as dark as you like.

Hope that helps,
Alan

I disagree, they used to be the laws, now your not alowed any tint on the front windows and windscreen. I found this out when i had mine done. I drunkenly asked some coppers before i had it done (the ones on the street at night) they actually said they didnt know but to call the police station, this i did and they said no tints on the fronts/windscreen but you can paint the others with black paint if you want.

:yeahthat:
Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 as amended specify the minimum levels of light that must pass through the windscreen and front side windows. The limits are:

Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%. The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

If the glass is tinted to a point whereby it lets through less light, then the vehicle does not meet legal requirements.

Its legal to tint your front windows, but only very lightly. As i said in my original post, most modern vehicles come out of the factory with around 72% VLT therefore meaning that you can tint them, but only by around 2% (hardly noticable.

Cheers,
Alan
