Adding Aux

Fiat 500, on a 59 plate. Has Blue & Me.

Bluetooth only works for phone calls, not audio streaming. Down by the handbrake is a windows branded USB socket. But there's not a 3.5mm aux jack anywhere.

Pulled the stereo out to check what model it is.

It's a Bosch Fiat 312 MP3 (7 468 572 316)

What's the best way to add in a aux socket?

I purchased this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUX-MUSIC-...-/381778768510

Basically it's a Y-Cable to connect both the Blue&Me USB Module and an Aux cable in to the stereo. It comes with a USB stick containing a track of silence that you plug into the USB slot to activate the input.

Works fine

Re: Adding Aux

It's crazy that such a complex solution is needed to such a simple requirement.

Re: Adding Aux

I managed to fit the well-known setup where you have the USB stick with a silent track on, and wire the aux in piggybacking onto the only three pins that are already connected in the top connector.

That works, but it's a pile of poo really, for the reason that AS SOON AS YOU TURN THE IGNITION OFF, THE RADIO TAKES OVER AT DEAFENING VOLUME!!!

Is there a way around this? The three wires going into the top connector are, I would assume, from the Bluetooth system, so if they aren't there, does it revert to giving you an aux option? I suspect not, but can anyone chip in who's tried it?

I hate this. It's particularly galling as I have the Interscope setup which sounds awesome but it's just imperfectly executed!

Re: Adding Aux

New idea - plumbing the AUX input into the CD output; fine, as I don't use the CD player. This should be fairly straightforward, though it might involve a similar kludge of inserting a CD with only silence on it, to kick the CD drive into "on" mode, unless perhaps it could be physically jammed into "on" mode, perhaps by jamming the microswitches, or whatever.

Anyway this revolutionary and brilliant idea - no, don't thank me, I was passing anyway - got stuck at the first hurdle, since when you take the covering panel off the head unit, you are presented with the rear of the main circuit board. And it's not clear how to get access to the other side, without some destructive bending and possibly breaking.

Anybody manage to do this? Cos If I get results I'll post 'em!

Re: Adding Aux

What's the reason for wanting to add the aux in? I have one on my Mondeo and never use it and on the Ducato, just plug iPhone / ipod into the usb. It all works fine?

Does the USB not work with some phones, (androids etc? )

Yer jokin' me mon??

The 500 is an able and ergonomically sound car. The upgraded Interscope audio system is a lot better than the standard setup. The Blue and Me system, on the other hand, is pretty hopeless and ill-thought-out.

YMMV, but my USB devices will only play tracks at random - no thanks - via the USB input. There's no way to navigate a connected device. When you turn the ignition off, the audio jumps back to the radio. And in fact getting the B&M to play anything at all involves a lot of witchcraft involving unplugging the USB and re-connecting it. None of that happens with an AUX input.
