Moderator, Sorry I didn't know that B&M forum existed under Miscellaneous so I am reposting here. Please delete the previous one if you wish.

Since I have to be driving a lot daily, the phone and music is a necessity. Of late I landed into a very difficult situation wth my B&M. The system won't just respond, whether to phone or to USB music. I guessed it was dead. It happened like this. Since the past couple of weeks, I would notice that the song being played from the USB port would just stop and the audio would changeover to radio. I thought may be there could be some error in the USB, which I would try and correct using a laptop. Last week, the odometer started flashing. I remembered that the last time this happened was about a year or so ago and before I sent the car to the garage I would try the internet suggested method of removing the battery terminal and plug it back in after about half an hour. It worked then. But not this time. Got battery checked, no issues.

I also noticed that the display on Blaupunkt system shows AUX. Didn't understand what it meant but slowly I started realising that perhaps the B&M unit has gone toast so instead the system goes over to AUX. Also none of the B&M buttons on the steering worred.

Being an engineer myself I thought let me at least check the module. I opened it and found one of the chips on the PCB sort of burnt (well, looked like it). I am attaching some photos.

I got the B&M replaced by Kashyap Auto Okhla Delhi but the mode switching over to Tuner still happens, sometimes pretty quickly and sometimes after playing for a while. Nothing about the pen drive or the song format has been changed and I have been listening to these songs for over a year now. I called Fiat and they said they'll check!! They took the car on Saturday and did a proxy alignment and confirmed it is now set right.

One thing I noticed that the new B&M module that they installed had slightly different options of USB than the original. It also cost be over INR 13000.

This morning as I was driving to office, suddenly the song stopped and changed over to Tuner. After a few seconds it went back to USB. Then again to Tuner. Therefore installing a new B&M didn't help. There is a serious electrical problem that needs checking a correcting immediately.

I felt that the SRC / OK button could be the culprit, perhaps since it is a switch of some sort, it may be misbehaving by changing over modes all by itself. But again, if that were the cause, wouldn't it also change over from tuner to another mode?

Any help please?

I had something like this happening a week or so ago. Would attempt to play a podcast, and it would switch to the radio. Most frustrating. I eventually worked out that the podcast files had somehow become corrupt. Blue and Me couldn't handle the error gracefully, and just switched to radio. I deleted ALL of my queued podcasts, and then downloaded them again one at a time. Seems to have cured the problem as blue and me is now behaving.

Hi Keith

Thanks for your answer. I did just something similar to what you did. I first ran a test on my computer for any errors with the files which were a mix of audio, wma, mp3 etc. The software reported a lot of errors with the mp3 files, however I didnt find any tool to test the non-mp3 files. So as a first step I converted all non-mp3 files to wma and ran the songs through. First day was a perfect round. Second day onwards, the same problem started, though very little, may be twice in 25 km of driving. I have now decided to also find a software to check the wma songs for errors in any, correct them and rerun them.

What is intruiding is the previous B&M module that burnt out didnt behave erratic with the same set of songs. Also, I or the tehnicians couldnt find out the reason why the chip on the board burnt out.

These questions will perhaps remain unanswered. Thanks anyway. I shall post an update.

Fiat replaced the Blue&Me unit yesterday and claimed they had checked all wiring connections with tuner and steering etc. They then advised me to get rid of all folders and instead places all songs in the root. This latter part I didn't agree with as Fiat themselves have given an option to use folders. Nevertheless tomorrow I'll try that option too. Another reason could be the extreme heat in Delhi (44 deg C) and the unit is inside the glove compartment.

Will come back tomorrow. Meanwhile any help will be appreciated.
