Hi

We have a 2010 Fiat 500C which we bought used from out local Fiat dealer. It seems to have all the trimmings, or most of them, one of which is a Blue&Me Map satnav, made by Magneti Marelli.

It works fine when you charge it, but within 8 hours, even switched right off, its battery is flat :-(

The manual on the disc that comes with it urges caution for dealers replacing the battery; but the dealer has seemingly never heard of doing this, and will only offer a replacement satnav for £££s. Acceptable to us if the people who supplied the extended warranty agree. Which, as these things are designed to cover everything except whatever just happened, they probably won't :-(

So I'm chasing down options. I know the battery in the satnav is labelled XK 503562; XK is the maker, and 503562 seems to be the code for an 1100/1200 mAh Li-Poly battery, and I think this Google search:-

adafruit 258

may lead you to what could be a replacement (as a noob, I can't post URLs, it seems), and after a long struggle with Google and the Search on supplier's websites, I've tracked down that CPC Farnell have some for next-day UK delivery, and I have two (to meet the min order requirement) coming tomorrow.

And as long as it *is* the battery at fault and not a circuit in the satnav, and this battery *is* a replacement and not a walking invitation to set the car on fire, we will be all set.

In which case, all we will then need, if there be such a thing, is a Blue&Me SD card for SW EU for this satnav that is rather newer than 2010 :)

But being aware of things Magneti Marelli (I had a 1966 Fiat 850 Coupe followed by a 1969 Fiat 850 Sport Coupe when the engine in the 1966 one realised its long-held ambition of being at the front), I note it didn't seem to take very long for the Blue&Me satnav to become a TomTom item, and I suspect there are reasons for this :)

Previously, I had only seen pictures of the TomTom in a shallow centre receptacle on the dash, but now I think I have seen some of it with a holder that looks like it would go in the little flush slot nearer the driver that the Magneti Marelli 'stalk' sits in.

Have I? And if so, it is electrically compatible with the 2010 vehicle? If so, I think the TomTom might be a better bet.

For really serious up-to-the minute navigation, such as in Spain where all that lovely EU money means new roads pop up every week or so, we have a Garmin Nuvi 3400 with lifetime updates, but this is a dangling wires jobbie; it would be nice, however, to have the integrated satnav back in operation for day-to-day use in the UK
