Hi All

Now that iOS 4 has been announced for iPhone/iPod Touch release this month, I was wondering whether or not this will affect playback or compatibility with the Blue & Me iPod adapter as it is such a significant iPod software update? Will a Blue & Me software update be required for iOS 4?

Just wondering how this has worked with previous iPod Touch/iPhone updates?

Not till June 23rd but I was curious how it affected blue & me compatibility with previous iPod/iPhone updates. Really want OS4 aNd it's extra features but nervous to upgrade incase it stops my iPod adapter working and I'm stuck for months waiting for a software fix from fiat!

I have the iOS 4.0 on my iPhone. I'm tryin' now and that works fine with the BM adapter and the latest BM sw.

The Adapter carries the "Made for iPod/iPhone" logo so has been tested by Apple and they are aware of it so my guess is it will be fine, if not a tad better.

As for Bluetooth compatibility that could be a whole new ball game.

It may say 'made for iPod/iphone' but as a long time apple user I know that apple are renound for not supporting accessories after updates. The amount of FM transmiters and other accesories I have in a drawer that have been made obsolete by new models is ever growing. I won't be upgrading to an iPhone 4 for this reason. I can quite believe the adapter not being compatible with the new model and having to shell out again for a new iPhone 4 compatible adapter.

I love apple and my 3gs but sometimes apple move too fast without caring about the consequences. Atleast I know now that the adapter works with iOS4 on a 3gs.

TBH, I just upgraded my 3GS with the 4G update and the blue and me adaptor wont work for me:(
It plays a song for 2 seconds after I turned the car on and then switches back to radio. If I access the media player and select Artist or Album or anything it just says media not found...
I reckon people should wait until it's really confirmed that it works..

Same here! Is there any way I can revert to an older OS system or have I lost my iphone forever in my car?

I'm using an iPhone 3G with iOS 4.0 and the Blue and Me adaptor and its working fine with no issues. Bluetooth is also working fine for making and answering calls.

You can downgrade, however you have to jailbreak, plus i think its illegal to downgrade...... however it is possible (y)

I don't want to do anything illegal with my phone, so that's a problem. What I don't understand is why some people are having no problems and others have problems. Thanks for the reply.

You cannot downgrade as the firmware is changed with iOS 4. You could jailbreak in order to downgrade but you would still have to wait until iOS 4 is successfully jailbroken.

To be honest, if there is a problem with compatibility with iOS 4 an the Blue & Me iPod adapter it's best to just sit tight until Fiat offer a software upgrade. I think I'll go and check if mine still works.....

Well I've just been out to my 500c and my iPhone 3GS with iOS 4 is very buggy with the adapter. Keeps disconnecting itself (No media found), wont see any playlists and can't browse artists (they all show as '-'). Worked brilliantly before.

Guess I'll just have to dig out my USB stick for now. Gutted as adapter was expensive and love having access to my 30GB of music on my iPhone....

Just read a tip on the apple forums.

The method used to recognize the USB device has a clever bit of code in the firmware to improve the connect time once the initial handshake with the device has been established. So after the update to iOS4, the host device (Car Stereo) still thinks that it is connecting to the un-updated client device (iPhone prior to updating to iOS4) The updated client device (Your iPhone with iOS4), must fool the host device (Your car stereo), into believing that it is an entirely new device. This is done by connecting your iPhone to the stereo head USB port with the iPhone switched off completely. This is achieved by holding down the top power button on the iPhone until the red slide bar comes up and prompts you to shut the iPhone down. Do this and then with the car stereo switched on, plug the iPhone into the USB socket and wait till the iPhone starts of it's own accord. If it does not start, press the top power button on the phone until it starts. This will force the host device (Your car stereo) and the client device (Your iPhone) to re-negotiate the handshake between the devices and get you back to where you will once again be happy.

I havne't tried this but it's worth a go isn't it for those of us who have lost the ability to play music and stuff through the adaptor.

I had this problem as well but a reboot of the iphone seemed to fix it.

The handsfree has been a bit buggy though. will try the advice above and see if that helps

:) After having the same problem with my iphone using iOS4 and the Blue & Me adaptor, and trying the method above, I have found a solution that works!

Reset for iPhone and iPod Touch,
Press and hold Sleep/Wake button (on top of the unit) and the Home button (on the face of the unit) at the same for at least ten seconds,
Until the Apple logo appears.

Hope it works for everyone else too! (y)

I tried the method I posted and it didn't work although the ipod stayed on a lot longer. I will try the hard reset as suggested and see if that works.

Worked for me... It finds all artists and songs, I haven't left it on for long though, not sure if it stays stable...

But nice find!(y)

I tried this today and unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I get a few seconds of the ipod playing then the stereo reverts to the radio.
