You may need to buy a current invertor to run it, it's likely that it has a separate power supply !!

And now tip time, if the power supply dies or the interface does, you can take the HD out and put it in your pc on a dedicated IDE cable

Unfortunately I am saying that from experience - cheers Toshiba

Re: USB Hard Drives

No it will not work

For a 2.5" external laptop drive you need 2x USB ports to power it.
For a 3.5" you need 1x USB port but you also need a mains power supply.

Blue and me only has 1x USB slot so you can only use a USB flash drive.
You could buy a 16GB, 32GB, or even a 64GB USB flash drive.

Re: USB Hard Drives

Seems odd that the B&M USB port has such a gutless power supply.

I tried a USB 2.5" HDD that runs perfectly happily off a single USB port on any laptop or PC, and the B&M wouldn't power it, the drive light came on but it just sat and went "click... click... click... ".

Has anyone found a particular make/model of USB HDD that consumes small enough currents for the B&M port to power it?

Could you not buy a 12v invertor and run the drive from that ? (assuming you have a ciggie lighter socket)

Re: USB Hard Drives

I got it to work with a laptop HDD once - see my post on this in this thread

http://www.fiatforum.com/bravo/15451...isk-error.html

i don't recommend it though, more bother than it was worth.

Re: USB Hard Drives

Have a look at my post on Alfaowner, "http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/ice-and-blue-and-me/116645-hdd-working-in-blue-and-me.html"

Basically, 1.8" hard drives should work fine. Mine does and has given me no problems whatsoever.

P.S. no direct link because apparently I'm not allowed to post URL's until I have at least 5 posts, even if I'm trying to help people! Jeez mods, lighten up!
