Blue & Me and IPOD and pure frustration

Ok - from reading some of these threads I have just about understood that what me dealer told me about B&M - 'just plug your IPOD in to play it' is rubbish. All the songs on my IPOD are MP4 and this thing only recognises MP3. Correct?

To me that makes Blue & Me as much use as a chocolate fireguard since I rarely use a mobile phone and would have no idea what bluetooth is anyway.

So - all I ask is - how can I play my IPOD through the Interscope system in the car. Is there a way to do this without using the USB socket provided?

Whether it makes any difference i don't know - but my IPOD songs are a mix of ITUNES purchases, unofficial downloads and copies if CD's???

The File format should be .MP3 but if you've bought music from Itunes this is unlikly to play as it won't be MP3

Not entirely correct, m4p are the protected Apple format, m4a are the equivalent unprotected file type. M&B i beleive plays m4a files and AAC files and of course WMA and Mp3 but wont play m4p or any other DMR type files.

If I had an Ipod I was you I would experiment with the various files types to see which will and wont play, all this can be done simply from Itunes if my memory is correct. You obviously wont be able to play any DMR files, so the only solution if you have lots is to either:

1)Strip the DMR off -using one of many programs to do this, I tried this once it works but its a pain.
2)obtain the songs again in mp3 format

3)or simpler still, invest in a short range radio broadcaster for Ipods then tune the radio in. Its not ideal but unless u want to rebuild your music library to suite B&M it may be an easy compromise

Re: Blue & Me and IPOD and pure frustration

Thanks for the replies - tbh it sounds a bit of a pain in the *** to do all this.

I checked with the dealership who suplied the car and the wisdom from their workshop was that I needed a 'lead'.

OK - I may be stupid but not that stupid!!!! I was not just placing it NEAR to the USB port and hoping it would work!!!!!!

It doesn't need to be difficult to do this. There is a site which explains how to use Protected Music Converter to do this.

Site is here: http://www.m4p-mp3.com/

Takes you through step by step. This should sort out your problem.

You can convert your MP4s to MP3s through iTunes - if you highlight the tracks you want to convert, go to 'Advanced' in the tool bar & there's an option to 'Convert selection to MP3'. This'll work on all files except those bought through iTunes Store. You can also download free converters to do this from loads of websites. My ipod is Mac formatted, so won't work full stop. Considering reformatting to PC (EEK!), but not sure as no one on here has a great sucess rate. I bought a Sony Walkman MP3 player which works fine, but only carries 8 gig - I'm bereft without my 80 gig pod!! You could try a RoadTrip - OK but I get static coming through. I Travel from Birmingham to Worcester for work, & frequency has changed by the time i get half way there!

Re: Blue & Me and IPOD and pure frustration

Don't convert them from one lossy format to another, it will just get worse and worse!

I also have interscope and was disappointed with the MP4 or lack of on the iPod through B&M. I ordered this....http://www.fiat.co.uk/Content/FAQs.a...oryid=228#7252 and although it too has it's downside like not showing track names. It WILL play protected files and it WILL honour iTunes created playlists.

I also get to hide my iPod in the glove box too :-)
