Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

I have just purchased a Fiat 500 sport, and although the phone is working fine, I have got problems with my iPod(s). My iPod is Mac formatted, and I think this may be the problem. I have made all my songs MP3, however still no success.

If anyone has any solution to this iPod problem please let me know as I would prefer not to take all my music across to a PC!

Re: Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

Are the tracks purchased from iTunes or copied from CD?

Re: Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

The MP3 tracks are from CD, the purchased ones cannot be converted. Neither work on the Blue and Me though.

Re: Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

Hiya!

I believe it's because the Blue And Me system is Microsoft based, so is designed to read devices formatted in an MS Dos system such as FAT32.

We've only got Macs so an ipod just isn't an option really in that case unless no one knows any better? Our solution was to just buy a memory stick off an auction site (about £10 for 4Gb) which will be formatted Fat32 so you can just drag your albums out of your iTunes folder onto it.

Re: Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

Yes unfortunately to get a mac formatted ipod to work on blue and me you need to format it on a pc then it alter the music to MP3 then it will sync with your mac. However it will not recognize playlists.

Or as I did instead change to MP3 and just use the iPod to store folders of music on. It wont sync need to use drag n drop but will use folders as playlists. An absolute pain when used to easing syncing and updating via iTunes.

I am fed up with people telling me it's a Windows system as if there would be no way it would ever work with an iPod. Surely iPods and macs are so popular fiat and microsoft need to listen and do an update.

Does anyone know how we can petition them?

Fingers crosded for an update soon

Gus

Of course they did, they wouldn't have sold anywhere near as many iPods if they hadn't.

The simple fact is, Apple need Microsoft a lot more than Microsoft need Apple.

Bill Gates owns a large chunk of Apple
he bought it to stop it going bankrupt many years ago
otherwise he would be a monopoly

Today, Microsoft own less than 0.005% of Apple, and that's through some fund or other. The shares Microsoft bought in 1997 were sold years ago.

And, for what it's worth, Microsoft aren't big on helping out Mac users - be it Mac Office, Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player. I'm not holding my breath for this to change any time soon.

I'm planning on purchasing a 500 early next year, but this Mac-formatted iPod thing has got me a bit concerned.

Is there any way of using the USB port just to pipe music through the dock connector, without having any of the advanced iPod controls? If not, I guess it's pray for an upgrade or stick with the iTrip...

I imagine there's going to be a fair bit of crossover between Mac and 500 drivers, it'd be a shame if this was never sorted.

Re: Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

the only/best solution seems to be put your music onto a large usb stick, i have bought an 8gb which is a lot of music, just need my 500 to go with it now.

Re: Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

WOW!!!

No solution, but definitely caused a great debate... or WWIII

I have to say given that the 500 is doing for cars what iPod did for portable music, it is a shame they cannot work together the way they should.

Since my posts, I have converted my old shuffle (one of 4 iPods I own... crazy I know!) into a MP3 data holder and converted some of my music to MP3 to drop onto it. This has worked and works well as I have no cables this way.

Hopefully Fiat release a patch that will fix the problem.

Re: Mac formatted iPod on Blue and Me

You can re-format you Mac iPod in Windows format if you have a PC lying around or if you have a friend with a Windows-based PC. If you restore the iPod on the Windows PC it will re-format it in Windows format but it can still be read by a Mac:

See the Re-formatting Mac iPod thread for more info.
