which phone & mp3 player

i have read that lots of you are having trouble with i pods and certain phones my question is which mp3 players do work and using which music programme ( itunes/napster/mediaplayer ) also is there an "up to date" list of compatible phones that includes more than sony ericsons or is the system only compatible with antique phones
