Shocking to find out that I haven't posted for over 2 months. You'll be pleased to hear that in that time I've moved forward VERY slowly on my B.

1st I've fitted the new clutch cable which seems to have sorted the poor pedal feel. Good. :)

2nd - new Rad is going in. See if you can spot the difference between old and new....

Out with the old...jpg

Excellent next day service from Northern Radiators (www.radiatorsonline.co.uk). Had to order over the phone as the radiator for the B is not listed on t'interweb, but apart from that highly recomended.

3rd I'm putting the front suspension back together with my rebuilt driveshafts, etc (see Leaky Gearbox thread from January for more details if you fancy... )

So, I re-asembled everything, got a neighbour round to apply foot to brake pedal whilst I torqued up the hub nuts. I now need to stake the nuts. Does anyone have any idea how to do this and what tool I should use? I've tried on one side using a hammer and punch, chisel, screwdriver and all I've managed to do is sh*g the nut so I now need another new one. HELP!!!

Doog. :(

Hi Doogal;
To strake the nut all you need to do is hit it with a hammer and nice sharp chisel. This should have the effect of splitting the collar of the nut slightly whilst at the same time indenting it into the required niche:)
Could you tell me how much you paid for the radiator?
regards clive.

Thanks, Superspotter. I thought that was what I was doing, but maybe my chisel is not up to the job. I'll get a better chisel tomorrow (and a new nut) and try again. May sound daft, but can you post a pic of the chisel you have used?

Rad was about £160. They said that I could get one for £99+ vat but would have to wait about 2 months, so I paid the higher price.

Linky doesn't work because I have foolishly included a bracket in the URL. Try this: http://www.radiatorsonline.co.uk/

Cheers

Its all locked away and I cannot get access at the moment but it is a smallish one , around 6 inches in length with a good sharp end, bought in B&Q incidentally!

OK. Thanks. Updates tomorrow hopefully following a trip to Fiat dealer and Homebase.

Cheers

Welcome back, I normally just use a heavy screwdriver, it's only the last couple of mm on the collar that you need to hit and they are pretty soft at that point so don't take much. Bearing in mind the torque setting is 280nm it's not comming off, it's only enough for the nut to struggle past that point so it doesn't loosten so only a small dent will do it.

Does this look OK - LH of the 2 stakes - the other one needs more welly, I think.
