Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

Not a good idea to wrap stainless steel as it is much thinner than mild steel, wrapping a stainless steel pipe can cause a fracture.

I have wrapped my manifold but its mild steel, it made a big difference once it was on!

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

Next month I will be getting one of these little beauties It should help get a bit more fuel into the cylinder and as long as I dont go OTT the ECU should be able to cope with it.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

Will you not have to re-map with extra fuel pressure? I take it replaces the fuel pressure regulator........

I'm struggling on this one Doc, the fuel pump normally gives more fuel that the car can use so the excess is returned to the tank in the return line. So how will extra pressure help?

It will help with ecu map work when the semi race cams go in.

Are you planning on fitting a turbo? If so, do you know how these cams will suit a turboengine? A good NA cam isn't necessary a good turbo cam. But I'm sure you already knew that.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

I had never heard of a Power Boost valve before so I googled and this came up, it sounds like a good bit of kit for those traffic light racing scenarios that sensible drivers like us never indulge in

Go for it Doc, just please don't overdo it and melt your motor. That would be

"Contrary to popular belief these do not increase the power of your car but they do usually give you better throttle response. A Power Boost Valve is a replacement for the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel line which is found in the return fuel line to the fuel tank, so it is actually a back-pressure regulator. This often confuses people when fitting them because its more natural to think of controlling the pressure downstream of something than upstream. What the Boost Valve does is allow the pressure in the fuel rail to recover more quickly to the required pressure when a sudden demand is made upon it when you put your foot down. FSE quote a figure of 1.7 times faster than standard. If you know what you are doing you can adjust the fuel line pressure with the Boost Valve - there is a screw in the top and you can purchase a fuel pressure gauge that attaches to the side of the valve. Its kind of like playing around with jet sizes in a carburettor. We must point out though that you really do need to know what you are doing if you are going to adjust the fuel pressure. If you make it too low, the engine will run lean and this can cause things to melt such as pistons. Boost Valves come pre-set at the correct pressure for each engine."

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

The Super Sprint manifold is not that hard to fit but if you have fitted the dual fans then its best to remove the rad first before fitting. I moved my rad 4cm to the right so that it gives the rad fans a bit more space infront of the manifold. I also cut off the downpipe hanger as it just sticks out and is not used on the B. I had to change the intake mounts and the oil catch tank mounts because of the 4cm rad move as well as mod one of the samco hoses. KC moved his rad forward but I have an oil cooler so this option was a no go for me as its in the way. You also have to mod the dip stick as it does not fit once the new manifold is fitted. Lots of silly little mods that take up all your free time but once done I think it looks great.
