Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

I know m8 its on my mind but you should see this cable eheheh. I had to fit 1/0 AWG as I did not want to drop the starter motor current or return battery charging off the alternator. Just getting the cable from the engine bay into the cabin is no simple task. I am going to run it through the drivers side wheel arch and into the cabin from the indicator cable in. Once in the cabin i should be able to run it along the door trim and then behind the seatbelt into the boot. Sounds simple but its not.

The battery tray turned up today so that one step closer. Downside is the new 1/0 AWG cable battery connectors dont fit my battery so I will have to order some more.

I tell you the amount of extra room I have in the engine bay is great !! but its no easy mod.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

A good few hours work went into the B on Sat. Things are moving along

The engine bay is finished and the car starts with the battery in the boot Next on the list is a bespoke air intake that will make use of the extra room.

I still have the boot battery box to fit and to finish fabricating the boot floor out of MDF.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

Running the battery cable was a nightmare as you can see from the pics below.

It looks like at some point my B had a fuel leak, so I will have to clean the mess up before putting the panel back on. I am going to Dynamat the panel also to help with the road noise and run some amp cables as I might fit an amp in the boot at some point in the future and dont want to be having to remove all this stuff again.

I also noticed a bit of rust on the inside wheel arch that needs looking at before things get out of hand.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

You've gone all mental mate Looking good, though

Btw., while you've got the back panel off, any chance you could try taking a photo of the boot release catch, in case mine snags again...

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

Sure will do.

Almost finished the boot mods today Only a few small things to finish off but coming together.

As I removed the wheel from the boot, I had to make a support so that my new floor can rest on something. On top of that I made a new flat floor out of MDF and finished it in grey speaker cloth. On top of all that I made a new black boot floor cover that replaced the OEM one. (See pic below)

Long hard job that did not cost that much (£120) but you are looking at a good 10 hrs work. At the same time I did move my 10 CD changer into the boot as well as Dynamat the petrol tank trim panel. I will also run some amp cables before fitting the trim and tank panel back on the car.

Thats me for the weekend... time for a nice warm bath and a cold pint.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

I went to take a picture for you Robot but I had alread fitted the plastic panel that covers the boot cable. I will be taking it off again at some point so I will post a picture when I next get a chance. Below is a picture of the panel that covers the cable. As you can see you dont have to remove the fuel tank cover to get at the cable but to remove this plastic cover you have to remove the drivers seat . The cable comes out behind the trim panel inside the boot on the left side.

I gave the fuel tank area a good clean tonight and got shot of all the old fuel gunk.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

Just splashed some more cash on getting the car ready for a four channel amp. I have the petrol tank cover off the car at the mo, so I am running all the cables that I will need before fitting all the trim back on.

2x RCA cables, 1x amp remote start cable, 8x speaker cables, 1x Positive cable + fuse, 1x Neg cable

I will have to dismantle the Fiat rear shelf speaker box that I have been using again, and wire it up using the external amp instead of the pathetic excuse that Fiat fitted back in the day.

Now that I have lots more free space in the engine bay, I got my hands on a second hand BMC CDA CARBON FIBRE INDUCTION KIT last night off eBay Saved me a good few £££ as a new kit is £200 £68 bargin so well happy. I will order some Samco hoses to finish off the look.

My B has done well this month... I have spent a small fortune.

Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project

Doc, its looking great but you are setting a benchmark that very few of us will be able to meet let alone better!!

When are you next over to Syntegra? Bring the B instead of the company car and lets meet for lunch - I am itching to see your B in the flesh!
