| Devil is in the detail | Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project Sorry I was out of the UK and did not have time to post. Painting the vents is easy but the dash parts take a bit more work. You can just pull out the two end air intakes but dont over do it whan you pull them out, just take it easy. The two large vents in the middle of the dash have a plastic holding plug in the middle that you you have to remove before you can pull out the vent. Once the vents are out, you can remove the inside plastic flaps saving you from having to mask them off. What you end up with is just a plastic tube. I will post again with tips on the dash but I am off to work now and have run out of time. Sorry Ps I will let you know what paint and how to paint soon Got 2 run Doc Orange Peel

| Devil is in the detail | Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project For painting you need to order primer paint, base coat paint and a clear topcoat. You need to find out what paint colour you B is so when you call your local paint suppliers, you can give them the year that the car was made as well as the colour code. You can get them to put the paint into spray tins if you don’t have a compressor and spray gun. If you spray with a gun, you will need to order some base paint thinners. Please see the link to my paint supplier. http://www.auto-paint.co.uk/ If you have tins you will still get a good finish if you take your time and follow a few simple steps. 1. Rub down the plastic panel with 800 - 1500 wet and dry paper. 2. Use a tak cloth to clean down the part. 3. Put the tin of primer in warm water for a few mins 4. Spray the primer 3 coats 15min apart 5. 5 hours later gently rub down the panel with 1500 wet and dry. 6. Use a tak cloth to clean down the part. 7. Put the tin of base coat in warm water for a few mins 8. Spray the base coat. 3-4 coats 15min apart. 9. 24h later if the paint is smooth and flat move on. If not gently rub down the panel with 1500 wet and dry making sure you don’t burn through the paint. 10. Use a tak cloth to clean down the part. 11. Spray the clear coat 3-4 coats 15min apart. 12. 24h later cut the topcoat with cutting compound 13. Keep polishing until the clear coat is like glass. 14. 2 weeks later wax the paintwork. Loads more info can be found on the Net. Hope this helps Doc Orange Peel

| Son of the Propeller. | Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project Wow! lots of work! might just take it down to the shop and have them painted... I ll give it a try on the air vents to see how things work out. If all goes good, then i ll give it a shot with the center consol. Thanks a lot Doc! Sorry if this took lots of time to prepair. Nice guide though, as always ![]()

| Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project
No real plans yet -- just learning about Bs -- have to get DTR to check the car -- then sort out the red key thing -- then start to tidy up the engine bay -- have bought an indicator, digital clock, hoops, new radio, discs and pads. Also need to sort out drivers mirror, electic ariel, seats a bit tatty -- need to repair a cigarette burn. Previous owner had a bodyshop and so that's all perfect -- took the car as owner went bust!!!!! he said the cambelt was changed 1000 miles ago which was in fact 2 years ago -- is there any way to tell if the belt has only done 1000miles -- I suppose DTR might be abke to tell. Thats enough -- starting to ramble on. Mike

| Devil is in the detail | Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project Jack up the passenger front wheel, you will be able to look under the car and see the belt. Have a good close look at it. It should look in great condition if its only done 1000. The problem is that if the car has been sitting around not being used for a long time, the belt can go hard and start to crack when used again. If you are not sure, get it checked

| Devil is in the detail | Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project The 6m 1/0 AWG cable turned up today, as well as the new battery connectors. I need to run the cable from under the bonnet along to the boot. The cable is chunky but its flexible. (thank god) This is not going to be a fun job thats for sure. ![]() I have also started fitting Dynamat under the bonnet. ![]() Below is a pic of the catch tank thats now fitted ![]() Below is the mount I had to fabricate to take the positive cable box. ![]() Doc Orange Peel

| Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project Are you going to fit a CDA, or re-fit your old cone filter? I thought about moving the battery, but it does look like a lot of work, and I didn't want to sacrifice the boot space. I probably will go for the oil catch though, depending on how you get on with it. Good luck! Matt.

| Devil is in the detail | Re: Doc Orange Peel Barchetta project I will re-fit your old cone filter for now and replace it with a one off air intake kit that I will have made by my local exhaust fabricator.
