I have just replaced the oilsump on my '95 barchetta (did the work myself).

But I noticed that the piston rods have 3-4mm sideways play on the cranckshaft. But there is no play in the bearings (up/down movement). Is this normal?

The car has been in storage for the last 1 1/2 year and the engine was running fine when i last drove it (exept for the crack in the oilsump) but I discovered the crack early and it never ran without oil. The milage on the car is 125'000 Km.

That is normal.Did you use plastigage to check the con rod clearances? Also if there is a ridge at the top of the bore make sure you remove it with a ridge reamer.Hal

Hi,
Did you change the sump with the engine insitue? If yes, how difficult was it? Did you have to detatch the gearbox to get to the sump bolts on the gearbox side? I have a very small sump gasket leak and am considering repairing this during the next winter layup.
Cheers

There is no need to move the engine or detach the gearbox in order to remove the oilsump.

(This information comes from the mechanic that was removing the sump from by 97 B recently in order to repair the oil plug and inspect the crankshaft bearings.)
