hi all...

just curious... what kind of temperatures do your dash board guages report? not talkin actual temperatures but what the needle does.

on the whole mine hovvers around the first mark, but in traffic wanders up to just a slivver above the half way point (fan is on by then)... it hasn't gone much above that... but i had a few nervous moments on the M4 the other day... stationary traffic and the temp creeping up... baking hot weather with the fan on full blast. I had just come off the M50 where i had let rip a bit and was surprised to notice a cruising temp approaching the half way mark. The old B never used to get that warm as i recall... but then i never went berserk in such hot weather in the old B...

like I say... just curious... what do your temp gauges say?

bushes finally turned up at the old mans house... not seen em yet... were a week late and the packaging is trashed. hopefully all the bits are there. wtg cooper carriers.

enjoy the sun,

dan

Same story - usually the gauge is around the first mark, but in traffic and in the recent hot weather it's got up to 1/2 way. Never seems to get above this.

Doog.

mine goes 1/4 and when it gets really hot and here in athens were talking really hot it will go a little over 1/2!!!!

i try to avoid driving downtown athens try to keep the barchetta for all the fun stuff!!!!
of course you need a second car for that, well thats were the french come in!!!!hehehehe

Hi
I have changed my air filter to a direct air flow system (Green filter) I get the same as normal operational temp, but in the hot weather it does go up a bit more then others by the sound of it but It has never gone into the red.

Doc Orange peel(y)

I will be having a small vent put into the bonnet at some point so that should help.

I wondered the same as the temp gauge was always on the 1/4 mark until going through Aberdeen on the ring rd & heavy traffic where it went up to the 1/2 and never went higher and it was baking hot. The fan cut in and went back to the 1/4 again as soon as i got moving again.

mine does the same - exactly! I drove up to London yesterday and it was boiling hot - the needle went just above half way but no further - I think that must be normal?

Hi All,

Thought I'd revive an old thread.

My temp gauge, when driving on the open road and m/way hovers around the first and second marks on the gauge. However, when I'm in town its a different story. The gauge moves in a very short period of time to the red/orange area.

I have never let it go into the red/orange area as I've always sropped and thought let it cool down for a bit. Obviously this is not very convenient.

During the summer, my garage replaced the below part (some kind of resistor attached to the fan). Because they said that the fan was not kicking in when 1st and 2nd gears were engaged. Obviously this did not fix the problem.

Grateful for any ideas,
Mr G

Hi Mr Gas,
I had the same issue recently, have you checked whether the fan is kicking in? Just run it for 10 mins to check first of all. If not check the fuzes in the box next to the battery and in the drivers side foot well. Check the relays at the bulk head. Check the temp sensor on the block near the throttle housing and finally check that the plug is properly engaged at the bottom of the fan.

Do you have the technical manual? Shows which fuzes are which and where the temp mm sensor is located. Also there are plenty of other threads on here which discuss why and how, search for over heating, fan not working, temp sensor etc.

Hi everybody,
I have my B since end of August and with the hot weather here in Spain, the temperature took a long time to reach the center part of the gauge.

With cooler weather temperature did not rise.
I took a look at the thermostat. It was broken and fixed at the open position.
After changing the thermostat, the temperature rises to the center of the gauge in short time and stays at that position.

I have the opposite problem. My water temperature gauge runs at three-quarters hot, almost on the last line before the overheating would normally be indicated. However, the car doesn't use water, and is not running hotter than normal. You are fortunate yours shows completely normal, at least you don't have to worry like I have to!

Sounds like you have either a faulty thermostat, temperature sensor or gauge.
The temperature should rise to a steady 80-90° (depending of your thermostat type) and stay there. So, first check if the fans kick in or not around 95°. If they don't, then your gauge is most likely faulty. You can check if the fans work at all by simply unplugging the temp sensor, the fans should turn on immediately.
If the fans do kick in at 95° then the thermostat if most likely stuck in closed position, and needs replacing.

@ Ilkka thanks for the reply. I still have the problem, a cool running car with a gauge showing into the very hot zone. The fan comes on normally and operates in warmer conditions. I have replaced the sender unit (no change) and the thermostat to no avail. I am sorry there are no other Barchettas in South Africa (LHD drive cars cannot be imported here) because a replacement gauge would be where I would need to go next.

hello alcarria I m from spain too, I had a doubt about the colour of the temp. sensor mine is green, mi barchetta is 1995, what colour is your temp sensor, thanks

ppgl10 - Thanks for that, greetings from South Africa. My sender on the engine is blue and replaced one which was also blue but made no difference. I suppose if I keep replacing things, I'll eventually have a new car!

thanks daveholmes, you have the only barchetta in south africa¡¡¡, my sender is green, loking for internet I had found it , is the sender fiat brava 113cv, it have the same reference bosch.

there is two sender , one in thermost. send information to ecu(mine is green, 2wires) and other in the cilinder head(send to thermometer one wire to ground) both tipe ntc

Hello Ilkka and ppgl10. - If I unplug the temp sensor, the car won't start. Do I first have to bridge the connectors on the plug? I would actually like to have a manual switch to run both fans but will have to rely on an auto-electrician to do that for me.
