Euro Breakdown Cover

Oh Dear!
I've been trying to arrange breakdown cover for my 1995 Barchetta. I'm taking it to France. The intention is to leave it there and eventually register in France, but because it is 22 years old it is proving to be difficult to get cover.

Any ideas/specialist owners' cover available/who covers yours/etc?

As ever any help/advice will be appreciated.

Re: Euro Breakdown Cover

Hi,
Perhaps the solution is to register the car in France, insure in France and include the recovery element. Afterall this will be cheaper than having to return to UK for mot each year. Plus european regs really don 't accommodate keeping other national registrations over 6 months a year (yes I know it happens but will your insurance be valid). French insurance also includes the road tax element but still cheaper than Uk road tax.

Re: Euro Breakdown Cover

Sorry if you only meant for insurance and breakdown cover for getting over to France. My French Insurance, insured me on my Uk registration to collect the car in The UK and pending French registration which took about three months in all.
I didn't take out breakdown cover to come over and all was well. If you can drive over accompanied with another car for a break/hol it could be straight forward or an adventure (towrope at hand).

If it's just breakdown cover you want, the German ADAC (equivalent of the AA in the UK) covers you for any car, anywhere in Europe (including in the UK).

If you don't have a German address, you have to have the "ADAC Plus" option, which includes some worldwide medical benefits. Price is 84 (EUR) single, or 109 joint for a year's cover.

Link to the English online application form is here https://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/ but you can only join online if you have a German address. Without a German address, you have to phone their Regensberg office on 00 49 94 15 23 44. Amanda Moser-Wickles and Ann-Katrin Zintl there speak English. You can pay by credit/debit card and join immediately.

It is my intention to keep/leave the B in France and register and insure it there it's just that in the meantime it being a new car (to me) and somthing of an unknown quantity I want cover for peace of mind on the 600 mile trip.

The ADAC idea appeals as a trip to Italy from France is on the cards.
Useful advice, thank you.

If you get it, bear in mind that this type of contract in Germany in ongoing. You have to give 3 months notice before the renewal date if you want to cancel it.

Although we do not do a traditional multi-car policy (each vehicle would have to be insured on it's own policy) we do give discounts for having multiple vehicles insured through us.

Regards
Dan

I have a FlexPlus current account with Nationwide BS - the"Plus" is for extras, not free but costing 10/month. These include European b/down cover, any car; I've read the small print and am happy to rely on it. You have to have permanent residence in UK.
